Save up a little longer and go for an aftermarket ECU.

Have a look at the sticky thread in this forum regarding aftermarket ECU's.

Im thinking about getting a xr6 computer for mine but not sure what would be best, a xr6 ecu or aftermarket... can anyone help

Aftermarket for sure!! Why do you want to spend money on an ECU you cant adjust??

Theres a group buy going of Wolf3D v4 for $1200 supply only at the moment. This is a great price. Not much more expensive than something like a Unichip.

EMS 8860 can be had for around $1500, the 4424 (Stinger) can be had even cheaper.

If you dont want to spend that sort of money yet, I certainly wouldnt be throwing it away on an XR6 ECU!! :)

s**t that expencive god dam... i'm quite happy with power and all in my car just wanted it to advance timing a little more as my fairmont ghia only has the standard ecu..

Its kinda a toss up between a vernia timing gear and ecu

Leave the ECU as is. My stock ECU saw me get to 183RWKW on a 4L EF.

IF yours is anything other than an EF or AU you can advance your ignition timing by moving the static position of the dizzy.

Vernier cam gear isnt required unless you've got an aftermarket re-ground cam with poor tolerances.

What mods have you done? chances are you dont need to touch your timing.

Being that you have an EF, it means you have a knock sensor. this means the ECU will try advancing the ignition timing as far as possible before it pings anyhow.

No, it wont. So stop thinking about the XR6 ECU :)

A vernier gear may be a good investment.
