Ahh its happening again!!! After reading a post not too long ago about LPG. And i took a few bits of info from there and turned it into actions basically.
I dont really want to explain that thou, but what the problem was b4 is that the Gas will cut out on me. Especially while idling and stop/start accelerating. It feels like its got a blockage or something then after a bit of labouring the car revs out to about 2000rpm and then its fine. This is a involuntry (spelling) thing too im not making it rev that high! Then if i switch it over to Petrol its fine...... Im going to get it checked out soon but just want to see if ne one else has had problems like this b4. And what the problem was. The gas system i have is a MGA converter with a APA tank. Ne help would be greatly appreciated

mm if it was doing it above 2000rpm i would have an idea
havea look and c if the convertor is icing up. tried resettign the gas system by dc the battery for 10-15 mins

Quick guess mixtures too lean on idle or the other way mixtures too rich and the car is flooding on idle.Bet your confused now.

Yeah na i sort of get what you mean, sounds like its pretty much doing what you said. As it seems to starve for more gas but its not getting it especially on idle.
But i try to raise the revs a bit but the car goes beserk it will just labour and then all of the sudden it will jump and start to work once the car is going past 40kmh. Also i noticed when i lifted up the bonnet and it started to act crazy the TB and whole air intake was very noisey sounded like it was trying to or was sucking in a s**t of air! So if i just disconnect the battery for a bit it might....might fix the problem. What about if i reset the whole car. Dont you just put your foot on the brake or something for several seconfds to reset the computer? If this is a good idea please let me know cause im not going to do ne thing to it unless its safe to do so. If worse comes to worse i will just take it to a gas specialist Cheers for the replys

Oh f**k!!! lol Not a vacum leak how would i know where its coming from?
It would have to be a leak in the gas lines if there were cause remember i said the car works perfectly when its on petrol. But i cant smell ne gas in the engine bay thou So there cant be a leak.... Ok i will reset the gas system tommorrow and i will see what happens. If to no avail then i will take it to a gas specialist Cheers everyone

If its sucking in a lot of air and noisy like you say you have a vacuum leak somewhere.Could be simple like a hose has falling off or a bit harder to find like a split in a hose somewhere but difinately a vacuum leak.Your sucking to much air and the gas doesn't like it.

Okay so how do i found out where its leaking from? Is there some sort of test i can runn to find out where the leak is? Or is this something a gas mechanic should be doing....?

This may not relate to your problem; at one time a back fire damaged my air box, intern sucking a piece of the debris into the gas mixer. The diaphram inside the mixer laboured with this foreign material lodged against it. Car would stall on idle and being a dedicated lpg system I had to start it with aerostart down the vacuum line and keep the revs high to limp to the mechanics workshop. I think the procedure to determining a vacuum leak is to spray aerostart or carbi cleaner around your intake fittings and see whether you get a change in revs/idle, though I would think that the attention would have to be layed at the mixer.
Once I had the manifold vacuum hose (scavenger hose) come away. It gave me a rough and lumpy idle, but the system compensated, never stalled.

Andrew - to test for vac leaks, spray some "EFI safe" carby cleaner on suspect areas (vac lines, manifold seals) whilst the car is idling. If revs pick up then the fluid is getting in there - i.e. a vac leak.
Here's a solution - flick the switch to petrol. Apply supergluie

teh problem is the it seams there is a vacum leak ony on gas! as the car is fine on petrol!
There will not be a gas leak from the tank to the convertor unless the service line has being damaged which i doubt. you may have a small leak from the convertor to the mixer that pipe is easly replace and you can do this legaly as well.

I'm not too familiar with this type of converter but the concepts are usually the same for all types. Generally there is a primary and secondary gas regulation stage as well as an idle circuit (probably with idle mixture control). After the gas exits the converter there might be a stepper motor or some sort of closed loop control adjustment.
If the car has trouble below 2000, and it sounds like you're not getting backfires (which normally means leaning off), it might be running rich down low and the mixture is terrible up to 2000 after which the engine starts getting the right amount of fuel. So, first test is to find a straight patch of road and accelerate up it. Then do the same thing with the air filter removed completely (or air box if you like). This will lean out the mixture down low in the revs by quite a bit. If it accelerates better then you're getting somewhere. So if it is rich you need to trim it back. It could be idle mixture adjustment. Converter is full of sludge causing the secondary stage to not respond down low stepper motor is stuck open air filter is blocked (it sounds silly but it happens!) obstruction in the intake ducting (somebody mentioned??) isc sticking closed? imrc? I assume your economy is crap so just taking a few punts here Cheers.

Cheers for the replys dudes, sorry i havnt been able to reply till now but i did check over the car on the weekend. Did the leak test and either i did it wrong or there is no leaks so that didnt help me unfortunately.
This is the problem basically ne accelerating (spelling) under 2000rpm the car runs like s**t. After that its fine. The economy is actually good i have been getting about 500+kms to a full tank of gas. So i dont know what that means. But yeah as i said not too sure about what it would be. But im getting it checked out by a specialist soon. Will try what you suggested flukey. Cheers

*Update*
Okay i still havent found ne leaks? so i dont know what im doing wrong... Have just noticed something which might help you out a bit more to determin what is the real problem. I start the car on petrol, drive it for about 1 minute or so then i get up to about 1500rpm then, switch it to gas. Drives prefectly while doing this. The revs stay above 400rpm on idle and rarely drop below that. However after driving for sometime say like 30- minutes ot an hour it starts to play up. Only notice it when parking or at the stop light. Once again accelration is a big problem under 2500rpm! lack of should i say. Cheers guys what do you think?
