i have a 97 festiva and the driveshaft wont lock in to gearbox\diff its a new one do i need a circlip there was one on it also gear box wont go into any foward gear :(

um, ive neva worked on a festy but on some laser boxes the top gear for the cv's "floats" on top of the cv, the gear drop down when u pull cv out.

pull the cv back in question out & look in the hole in the gearbox wit a torch & see if there is a gear fallen down & in ur way.

cheers fot that i will give that a go i have only changed shafts on subarus which are external :)
if it is that any ideas in how that gear goes back in the right place

i aint done a suby either, so somthing comes out of the gearbox & u bolt the cv 2 that on a suby?

wasnt the gear dropped it was the whole diff shattered no splines left in right hand sidr when i drained oil out lots of metal fragements came out to
