Hi guys, I own and have done up a Ford Fiesta 1.25 16V (UK) - Its a nicley done up, light wieght little motor and it usually catches people off guard when they use the wrong lane on a roundabout and attempt to overtake you - because they didnt expect a little car like this to demand respect in the lower gears. Ive had people sat in 2.0 litres keeping well behind and knowing their place because me and the vicious little motor have taught them not to under-estimate the mighty little ford!

However, although I obviously have fun - theres one problem. A year and a half ago a piston head shot through and had to be fixed. And recently 2 valves have burnt out and has had to be repaired again. Its not cheap keeping this thing on the road because the engine is Japanese and parts are expensive. Mechanics have suggested that mods like induction kit and sports exhaust may be causing valves to burn out - but I know plenty of people who do this kind of stuff to their little runners and dont get exploding engines. its only done 70,000 and its not asif Ive tried putting a turbo on it.

Is this a common problem for these cars? Is there a safer way to mod these up thats safer for the engine? It has a menacing appearance and a menacing roar and I dont want to have to change this if I dont have to.

Any advice guys?

i'd say the little fiesta motor is weak as piss, and is incapable of being "thrashed" and kept reliable at the same time, as is the case with most cars i guess

buy a better car?

if your giving it lots of revs you may need stronger valve springs or even better valves, these motors are definitly not meant to cop any sort of abuse

Yea possibly, I know smaller engines will obviously find it harder under stress - but generally I do treat the car with respect and only occassionally push its limits. At the same time its not like 1.2 vaxhaul corsas, Renault Clios and the like dont get ragged around and I cant see there being such massive amounts of difference.

I'll check out valve springs etc - but at the same time Im not wanting to spend double the amount buying these parts and having them fitted than it would to repair it, just incase it goes again.

The reason I dont upgrade motor is because a) Im at university and dont use a car down here b) smaller engines cost alot less to run and keeps up to most basic 1.6-2.0s anyway so its not asif I feel inadequate having a smaller car.

I know that kind... the annoying pricks who think they own the road and try to cut me off... I even had one do that today..... try to cut up the inside of me at a roundabout in a buzz box.. red p plater, with his 1.x litres of FURY!!!
Clutch pump, 2nd gear = me skating out the other side of the roundabout leaving hero in a cloud of smoke, probably needing a change of undies.

f**k I HATE PEOPLE LIKE THAT

hahaha its okay, I figured it out  , though its good that you have corrected it, just so the OP doesnt get confused and think its normal.

Seriously, go on a UK forum who cares about fiesta's.

So you were in the left, and when the other car tried to go around you in the fast lane you did a burnout and kept in front of him? I don't see how he was trying to cut you off if he was traveling faster than you were and he was in the right hand lane. you cut him off.

Roundabout has 2 lanes.
I was in the left lane.
He was in the right.
I was around in front of him by a car length and he decided he would come back up the inside of me before my lane ended. trust me mate, he was trying to be hardcore to his cuz in the passenger seat.
you f**k off now?

Yeah i know what happened, don't take my comments too seriously, I'm a lot more light hearted than that.

I did it to an astra the other day  , i passed him 5 mins prior, he then came flying up behind me while i was doing 70 so speed up to 90 and he backed off then i backed off and then he speed up again so i did (did this about 3 times, never let him in front of me) best part was he went to go around the round about and he was just about to launch till i threw it back in second.

I cut him off as he was attempting to pass before my lane stopped, i accelerated in the slow lane same as you.

:edit: Think about it. You're in the slow lane, he was in the fast lane, no doubt he was going 10-20k's (s**t car on red p's with a mate, 20-40k's) faster than you, in the PASSING lane, he wasn't undercutting you or running you off the road.. You then proceeded to put your foot down after seeing a faster car in the right hand lane attempting to pass you while you're cruising...

It's ok i understand, you can't drive and you were cranky some kid was about to pass you on the inside.

Sorry ArnoldElite for raping your thread! Kid need to learn

It was thru a roundabout doofus, which I went past him. If you've somehow figured out a way to defy the laws of physics which consists of an a faster object being overtaken by a slower object then s**t, you've got me!
If I'm in front, the car has to let me in, which he wasnt going to do, and by the time it would have taken for him to get that s**t iin front of me I would have been up over the gutter.
