this is a thread devoted to the sheer awesomeness of the ford laser (mazda 323). since buying mine in '06, its been through:

getting airbourne plenty at the pines
hours of full-on drifting at byford development sites
BULK fanging at the jurien bay salt lakes
towing falcons home when they blow heads (lol)
negotiating 45-degree uphill 4WD tracks getting to the wungong airstrip (awesome)
driving along the sandy beach at jurien, probably at about 7000rpm, totally hauling a**, only needed a tow once

aaand she still goes like the day i got her, mechanically that is. best f**k-around car ive ever had.

I've got a good mate with a KB laser, the thing gets nothing but abuse, he treats her like the town s***, jumps in and goes hard without warmup, everywhere is 110% throws it round corners, handbrake parks, key bangers, you name it. new tyres on the front every 5 months he drives it that rough.

Apart from things like clutch,cv joints, and 1 accelerator cable the car is mechanically fine. 370,xxxkm on it too,

Bows and pays homage to the mighty laser.

My first car was a KA laser back when I first got my licence...... Five door hatch, road toad green. Auto with the HO 1.5 4cyl. None of this piss weak 1.3 for me!! ;-)

It was awesome.... handled like it was on rails (well it went around corners faster than any XR I've had) scaring the s**t out of some of my mates at the time and copped all sorts of abuse!! Just wicked......

Of course all that abuse took it's toll at times.... Two motors (both times cracked rings) and two (auto) gear boxes later.

Sold it after a minor crash that I fixed myself and it's still going around the place somewhere.... Still has my bodgy first attempt at bog work and spray painting on the front too!!

Good times!!

Yep I have a KH TX3 AWD Turbo, runs 16psi day in day out, ive rallyed, hillclimed, powercruised and basically given this car a daily flogging, and the little champion just keeps going strong. Ive gone to sell it a few times now but just couldnt let it go.

Hell yeah man, these things rock! I've got a 1991 Laser, carbied, fully fitted out with all the Ghia goodies (originally an XL), goes like a cut cat, never lets me down, and is cheap as chips to run. I love it!

Yeah my first was the 86 , f**k rings and rooted 2nd and 3rd and i thrashed the f**k out of it, until my brothers found out i owned an un reg'd un warranted car and had no license and they sold it :(

Mate at the time had a 1.3 with a news paper head gasket that ran good as gold till it got folded in half by a cement truck, ANOTHER mate at the time had one running an sti turbo at 25 pound half the time and another had a rare 2 door sedan hatch backy 4wd one running 16pound that gave a supra a run for it's money round the twisties on a regular basis...many more but those are the interesting ones :D

[edit]and the acrylic blue 1.3 that left a 50m black mark out the front of my house...good times

Speaking of Lasers, i have a 323 IHI turbo here, complete with manifold and intercooler, just a quick question, what else do i need to turbo my stock laser, i just want to run low boost so i don't blow up my 1.6. I know nothing about turbos as I'm into real cars haha. So if i wack this baby on my engine, and the exhaust, what else am i going to need to get it working?

when i was 16 i bought a 84 mazda 323 (laser same same), 5 door hatch, 1.5L and 5 speed.

Thrashed the absolute f*ck out the car and couldnt kill it, I broke 2 cv's from front wheel burnouts (with handbrake), also pulled a couple in reverse.

I bought it at an auction for 200 dollars (stolen and recovered), then got it regoed and drove it for 6 months, sold it for 1200 bux...

Top little cars, cheap and fun motoring.
