the biggest gripe with them is excessive fuel consumption. Besides that they are pretty trouble free

They chew fuel like its goin out of fashion, the oil pressure relief valve can either get stuck open or closed. Stuck open, the tappets rattle like hell, stuck shut, and blows the oil filter seal out. Seen it many times, even when they were under warranty.
If the gearbox and transfer case oils haven't had regular changes, the stuff up, grind into gears, noisy operation, etc. Have a look and see if anybody has bothered to fit grease nipples to the upper wishbone bushes???? or the ball joints. Have a look at how much the torsion bars have been wound up.

A friend of mine had one which i drove from time to time. Problems i encountered:
Totally Gutless Chewed fuel like no tomorrow and had a ridiculously small tank (50lts IIRC) Absolutely no leg room for drivers or passengers Rough as guts on bitumen (typical 4wd) He also had a head crack while he was on holidays (cost him 4000 to get home ) - apparently needed a new head It also seized a front wheel bearing on him 1000 miles from nowhere in the middle of the kimberleys. He kept driving (what else could he do) resulting in catastrophic damage which basically wrote of the car for him. Don't know what he did with it after that. Best described as a lemon. Don't know if they are all as bad.

(usually runs equal) and bullet proof - absolutly! when i brought it i only had to replace a set of leads & spark plugs to get it running right which is only a typical maintinance thing, the only real problem ive had is a blocked radiator and a stuffed fuel pump, but it has done close too 400thou so i think i can cut it a little slack lol but other then those little things it hasnt missed a beat. btw i recently found out that a windsor V8 will bolt straight in without modifications
