hi guys, iv just gotten into sydney to see my dad and he has been having some car issues, he has a 1998 hyunia excel GLX twin cam...it has what appears to be a horrible missfire...he has replaced fuel pump, alternator, coil packs, master and slave cylnder for clutch...his mechanic wants to charge him over 3 grand to fix it but it cant be anything that bad on the car. i think his mechanic is just taking my dad for a spin to make money off him -_-...any ideas would be greatfull :)

When was the timing belt done?

If he had been near Liverpool I would have said to get him to drop it into CMS and get Joe & his boys to have a look.

Have you checked for water in the spark plug cavity?

I am guessing the spark plug leads are arcing out before they hit the plugs. Pull the leads off the plugs and check the insulation for signs of arcing.
