Hi guys, I'm new to this forum and i joined because of my love of classic fords and because of my 1969 cortina.
I was wondering what would be a good conversion for my cortina, I'm new to engine conversions and was wanting to know if anyone had any ideas on a good engines that could easily be put in without to much modifying of the engine bay. Thanks |

The vehicle was designed for a 1600 engine.
It could go to 2000 out of an Escort or later Cortina. Those would be the original design limits of that vehicle and would fit without engine bay mods. I would look at the brakes and go to the GT struts with their bigger calipers and discs if you do not have those already. A brake booster (e.g. VH44B) would be a definite inclusion IMO. If you have the GT struts then the Girling 4 pots (as found on early Volvos) would be an option. If you have standard struts then Hoppers Stoppers may have a mild upgrade kit available. Gearbox becomes an issue as the 2 litre uses a Type 5 and they are larger. Is OK if your car was an auto as they have a larger trans tunnel, should fit. If your car is a manual then you may need to enlarge the tunnel. The original Type 3 in the 69s would be a bit weak for the 2 litre. You have done the mods to fit the Type 5 that you can also then go to the Type 9 (5 speed). As CJH advised, check with the local authorities on what will be allowable. Here in Victoria, for instance, VicRoads are looking at tightening the rules even more. I understand that, even with Club Reg, allowable modifications are to be limited. Having said that, I would be surprised if a 2 litre would not be permitted as it is, more or less, a "drop in". Do your homework with the authorities first. PS... personally, I am a "purist"... I have a 69 GT and the furthest I would go is a 711M bored out to 1760, good exhaust, bigger valves, headwork and 2xDCOEs... which is what I am in the middle of doing. |

Lots of things,
I am currently fitting a 1.3 endura E from a 2000 ford KA, to my MK2 escort as it is a bit more "standard" than the 2.0 zetec in there currently - neither conversion is without its problems but they arent that difficult to fit.
