g'day guys, Iv been running the standard cat with pacey 4480's and an auspac catback for the last year or so. Car makes a great sound, nice and deep and doesnt drone however the cat just shat itself.
Im looking at a hi flow , but im not sure whether or not to go 100 or 200cpi. Someone mentioned that the 100 sounds slightly more tinny?

cheers

glad to hear im not the only one mate ;)
I was just gonna go the 100cpi because its the best flowing but i dont want to ruin the exhaust note at the same time

The 100cpi Cat is illegal.

i just had a 2.5" mandrel bent cat back with 1 muffler, standard cat and standard manifold. sounded good.
but then i got a set of extractors. was gunna just fit them with the standard cat, but turns out the catalyst had cracked. so i got a 100cpi cat fitted.
then over 2500rpm it sounded like one of those B&S utes with no exhaust, terrible
so i had to get a resonator fitted. but now it sounds good again. and goes alot better.

the moral to my rambling is it may make it sound a bit tinny. so be prepared to maybe have to install another small resonator

the 100 cpi cat is a cat you have when you dont really want a cat..lol
100cpi is illegal, and your exhaust will almost smell like it has no cat, i know mine does..

imo a std 2 1/2" or even a 3" cat is enough for a std or slightly modified 4.0l..
if you want the "i got a high flow cat image" then the 200 cpi will do the job..

100 cpi is really only good for boosted applications, in some cases overkill..

cheers for the responses guys, i got quoted $260 for a 200cpi redback today so it looks like that might be the go.
Hopefully it doesnt alter the note to much

im not keen on the magnaflows..the last 2 magnaflow metal cats i had fell apart, the last ones center become dislodged and blocked my exhaust 1 week after its 12 month warranty expired, might be a differnt story for a n/a application... so i opted to try the venom cat.. more than a year later and still good. :)

My 100 cell cat didnt stink.

Everyone said they already smelled bad so I ripped it out and it was much, much worse.

The free 20rwkw was nice though. :)
