Hellooooo
Got my falcon back after over a year out of the seat, so now for a few mods.. maybe Currently i have all bolt ons, and a 1673 cam. When i got the cam i thought it was the bees knees lol, but now im after more power and angry idle.. So its either a 977b or 1521a, im leaning to the 1521a cause its the bigger of the two. Question is WHO has had one of these and how do they perform? I want something to kick in at 4-4.5k and run hard to redline! ive already contacted Wade cams and it will have to be a regrind. cheers ps. its my second car i got it for basically nothing so i dont care if its got nothing down low or a s**t idle

not sure how they re-grind a 1521a unless you run a few extra shims or machine the rocker arm towers perhaps?
if you want a tough idle and top end power, then have a 1521a ground with 110deg lobes, but a chip & tune is a must along with at least crow XR6 valve springs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_nlHEBoVyqM mine didnt have any head work, so i didnt notice much difference in power from the 977b, however with some porting etc. theres gains to be had |

yeah it has to have a extra 2 shims per rocker arm, so 4 in total..
Yeah mine has no headwork either, it does have a J3 chip though. Might have to get it retuned if/when i put it in. Fordfairmont Did u notice any difference in noise when you gave it heaps? ford 6's sound pretty s**t, even with this 1673 cam when i give it heaps it doesnt really sound tough or great..

it was manual with 3.7 diff gears at the time, so the way it picked up revs it did have a nice scream to it, but for all i know it maybe sounded like a wet f@rt from the outside?
headwork does have a noticable effect with bigger cams...... i also ran a 1543b for awhile, and later sold it onto a fellow member here. His motor had a worked head and went a s**t better than mine with the same cam |

4500rpm to 5700rpm is pretty narrow power band.
I personly don't like to see more then one extra shim used as it puts the HLA to far out of the rocker tip. And we've all seen the photos of the broken rocker arms. Get those sort of cams as a billet or have the rocker posts machined down so you only need one extra shim. |

interesting.. maybe the 977b is a better choice then for a standard head, i was abit worried about the extra shims in the HLA. with the 977b how many more shim are needed over a 1673?
Yeah Tickford_6 i like narrow but powerful powerbands i now realise how much power these 6's really have down low, HEAPS so a huge cam still means its putting out big torque down low just not as much as a stock cam. I used to the skyline, it has hardly any down low and a rocket topend!

i have a surecam billet that is almost the same as the 1521a probably slightly bigger,
in an AU auto 2500rpm stall and 3.9diff gears idle to 2000rpm don't bother 2000 to 3000 goes about the same as a stocker. but 3000rpm + pulls very hard. plant the foot off the line smokes the 18's on the back. its sucks juice being an auto while cruising, a bit of a hill and you notice you have no go at low rpm. next mod either replace cam with a smaller one or manual conversion. |

i think a narrow high rpm power band would only suit something like a speedway car that spends 99% of it time just on or below max rpm...

so the 977b would be a better choice of cam then i gather, its got abit more top end than a 1673 but less aggressive than a 1521a, and still has a nice spread of torque through out the range

the 977b is a great cam, but nothing lumpy about it at all
even the 1521a isnt that lumpy, but with 110 lobes it sounds tougher to be honest, unless you go the whole hog and fit a T5, short diff gears, headwork, custom tune, big cam etc.... it will feel lame, and a waste of money imo |

i have a T5 thats one out of 5 lol
Yeah im thinking the same thing, a waste of money for 5kw, could i get a 977b reground to have a tough idle you think Fordfairmont?

ive tried the 977b with different specs and idle was still near stock
ford-4l-and-6-cylinder-f1/wade-977b-cam-with-tighter-lobe-separation-t62538.html but its the best cam imo for a daily driver hell, even the 1521a ground with tighter lobes is tame after a decent tune, but tends to drink juice like mentioned youve got the T5, so might as well do the headwork, big cam, decent tune, and finish it off with some 3.7 gears if your running an EA-EB1 T5, or 3.9's with a EBII-EL T5...... been there, and it was enough to keep me happy for awhile another cam thread ford-4l-and-6-cylinder-f1/bigger-cam-from-tighe-camtech-crescent-surecam-wade-t65510.html |

Legend thanks mate, one thing i noticed you have had more cams than headjobs!
ok so a 977b with a lobe of 108-110 will move the powerband up and have a fairly cranky idle, what i want
