Hey im looking at getting a wade 1604 for my ef futura.
Has anyone used this cam or is currently using it at the mo? Im just after any info you can give me on this cam, mainly how it drives in an auto, where power comes on etc. Im just after some more mid range torque(stock cam couldnt pull the skin off a rice pudding) Sorry about another cam question but search doesnt have any info. Car has extractors exhaust, cam gear,xr6 diff, au head and cam, stock ef ecu(waiting on my xr6 j3) Cheers shannon

Id go for the wade 1636.. has a bit more midrange power than the 1604
From what ive heard its one of the bests grinds for a mild 6 with an auto as it suits the standard springs ecu etc. Are you using the AU head and AU cam or just the AU head and retaining the EF rocker gear and cam? Sorry if i didnt read your post properly |

i would recommend getting the 1673. put one in my car same as yours less the 3.45s (that im going to get) and is awesome. i have auto and stock springs. there is no idle problem and no problem with the springs or lifter noise. comes on strong around 2500 all the way to redline. i just need to get some 3.45s and it will be perfect. also once you put the 1604 you'll be wanting more... so skip that step and save so money . take it easy **edit.. i missed the part about au head. not sure if these grind numbers are the same for au's

you cant use any e series grind in an au head unless you had e series rocker gear. au cams are bigger cos the ratio is 1.8:1 instead of 2:1 like in the e seires.
if you talk to chris or keith at wade (just ring them they are very helpfull people) they will point you in the right direction. for the dollar the phonecall will cost you tops, its worth having a chinwag about your options. I went with the 1671au grind, yet to get it installed and sorted. theres another grind with more lift than the 1671 but cant remember what its called. would prolly need new springs for that one, whereas the 1671 is intended to operate at the upper limits of stock springs. some info on 1671: cam lift 278 int 279 exh adv duration 263 int 266 exh valve lift .5004 int .5002 exh lobe sep 114 dont know what that all means hopefully tickford6 will apear and decode that for us all. cost was 135 for the regrind, citing fordmods membership. 90 bucks for spare cam from FTG auto salvage posted to my door. more to come once installed and tuned.

I thought you got one of CMS's cam's grimketel, lol.
Wade Cam's and Cresent Motorsports are your friends to speak to, CMS is a little more expensive, plus his in Liverpool, Sydney, where as Wade Cam's is in Melbourne.

$395 plus post from Wade, roughly $400-$450 from other companies. $800+ for custom grinds

I still think it's worth the money to have it regrinded than specifically made as a billet, seeing as you get most of that deposit back once you supply them another suitable camshaft. Thats my opinion though, others may vary.

cam 90
grind 135 shims 60 for a whole bag brand new $285 tops. I can see how that compares to $395 for a billet... plus i can sell my cam that comes out for 60 bucks to cover the cost of the shims. or find someone on here that has spare shims left over and buy them.

Assuming you live near Wade cams means you saved a further $50. Im wondering why you didnt pay the refundable deposit and saved paying $90 for an exchange cam? |

I thought the 135 part was re-fundable ONCE wade cam's or Cresent Motorsport's or whoever receive a suitable camshaft, so you would be only paying for the postage if applicable, and the price of a cam from the wreckers, and the shims if you need them....

Im wondering why you didnt pay the refundable deposit and saved paying $90 for an exchange cam? wade cams dont do refundables as far as i know. cms do iirc. the $135 is the cost of the grind alone. if FTG can post me the cam for 10 bob, 50 is a bit steep. i drove it there though within my weekly fuel bill so no probs there. finding a place that had a spare au cam out west here was not happening so i had to go through FTG, happy with the end result for the money outlaid. all win imho.
