Hi, I got quoted 2.5k for the 4 speed supplied and fitted in my EF. Could a 5 speed conversion be done for the same amount?? I could almost replace the whole car for this cost, Mmm

yes u could do a manual conversion for under 2.5 k
ill do it for under a grand lol

ur car is a 6 right?
if so then yes if its an 89 pricing could be about right
but then again the manual boxes are all the same just the shafts are different and the bellhousing but internals are mostly the same

You should easily be able to buy another EF for 2.5k these days. You can down here, and ours cars are generally more expensive than Melbourne.

But that price is about right for a reconditioned auto box.

Manual conversion if you DIY can be had for anything from $500.00 to $1,000.00ish.

mate 2.5 k for a reconditioned box is ridiculous
cost u about $800 to get a gearbox fully rebuilt
so it will be like brand new
and thats still a long way off 2.5 k

yeah, its usually around a grand to get a box reconditioned....including labour of removing and stuff 2.5k is still pretty exxy, unless it was manual converting to auto...

i know mal wood quoted me 2.5k for a t5 conversion with a rebuilt box.

cuase the B series guys are paying these sort of $$ for their boxes and pretty much the same components that got into say a 450 hp turbo box will also be in your newly supplied mal wood box. just the way it works. but if you want a T% thats going to take a FLOGGING.. where else will you go? needhams have a 5 month wait list, mal wood has them on his shelf waiting to ship. I know where I would go if i needed something to handle alot of power.

reco AUTO would be around $1300...then add remove and refit labour....mechanics rate is say $70/ph id say maybe 5 hours...then add oil and filter $200 (tq95 is not cheap)

so maybe $1850

you won't find many mechanics working for less then $88/h

the actual cost of an exchange box for a falcon is about $1600 (with a converter)
about $450 in labor
a rear main seal $15
12L of ATF $120
possible sleaving of the slip yoke $60 plus the time it takes to remove the slip yoke and the new uni you'd fit when you put the shaft back together.

all of this stuff needs to be included in the price when quoting. otherwise you'll get a call half way through telling you it's going to be a few hundred dollars more then the quote. Not that anyone quotes anymore. All of mine are ESTIMATES and the price is subject to dismantle and inspection.

yeah i was going on the cheaper side of things...your quote is fair from the looks of it...

this is what a RECO AUTO box costs its not the same as fitting a 2nd hand manal or wrecker auto...

i work at an auto trans mob and we charge 3500 - 3600 for a change over BTR that supplied and fitted at retail. We sometimes buy them in at a cost of 1250 to our company.
