Hey
I got myself an EA 5-Speed this weekend, sold the VL.....

anyways, looking over the engine and it seems to have 2 oil filters, there is the normal one on the side of the block, but there is a larger one on a special mounting over the left side strut.
It has a hose going to the top of the rocker cover and a hose going to the oil sender in the block....

Just woundering if anyone has seen this kind of set up before and knows what size filter needs to go there as the filter on it is just black....

I'll get some pics of it tomorrow...

I'd be interested to see a picture.
The big one on the passenger side will be a Ryco Z9, Repco ROF1 or Silverline OF1SL.

you'd think they would've run a sandwich plate or an adapter and disposed of the original.....

as for how its plumbed into the rocker cover, if its set up how i picture it, unless there's a restrictor, it'll be causing some major oil pressure issues

well the oil pressure is fine.....I put some HPR 15 in and changed the normal filter on the side of the block but wasnt sure about this one, I took it off and it was full of oil so I am sure its a oil filter, just need to know what type and why they left the old one there....

It will be an oil bypass filter. Trucks use them as a secondary oil filter. It is a lot finer than the main filter, as a result only a portion of the oil that comes out of the pump goes through it.

It shouldn't be too difficult to get another one, but generally they don't have to be replaced that often as all the oil is still going through the Z9.

You're not talking about the charcoal filter box? Its the only thing that immediately comes to mind.

I had a look at this setup and yeah it is definately an oil filter guys.
As he mentioned it get it's pressure from the oil pressure sender, and drains back into the rocker cover.

Back yard Bypass filter installation, it is used on most truck engines.
They filters normally are constructed in a different way (stacked disc), filtering out smaller particals than the standard filter
