Hey guys,

As a wedding present to myself i've decided to tart up my ride.

I have a relatively stock EL fairmont ghia, (the only mods are custom intake, extractors and 2.5 inch cat and exhaust, as well as slotted front discs).

It celebrates it's 200000k anniversary in about 5 weeks and i want to throw some hard earned at it.

What is the best way to spend $2000? I encourage a variety of opinions (power, handling and a mix of both)

cheers

Nice fat cam, J3 chip and depending how crazy you want to go, get the head done. port it maybe.

that is if you've got the exhaust done prior.

(have a happy honeymoon! pics or it didnt happen)

As long as the bottom end is in good nick i dont see why not. My Fairmont's done over 200,000kms without a rebuild and it still feels pretty strong. Im about to start working the top end at the moment, cam, bit of headwork etc and im not in the least bit worried lol they are pretty reliable motors

Have you done any suspension mods to her yet? If not id be looking at superlow springs and a good set of shortened shocks all round, maybe even superpro bushes.. Engine wise, id chuck in a nice regrind cam, maybe get the head taken off if it hasnt already, get it pressure tested, shaved, 3 angle valve job, new stem seals, check or replace the valve guides if need be, clean up the ports a bit then put it back on with an AU headgasket. If you do most or all of the work yourself and can good prices on parts and the head reconditioning you should still have a bit left over to play around with to spend on other little bits and pieces. Maybe tart up the engine bay or something while your at it 8-)

Should make for a bloody good wedding present to yourself mate, best of luck

$2000 limit dont forget.

You would want at least 3-4K for that excersise.

Since you already have the exhaust side of things covered, next step is a cam and tune. Recomend a CMS stage 2 or wade 1673 billet, or regrind if you fancy. J3 chip and custom dyno time tune. that should eat up around a thousandish if it all gets done by profesionals.

Spend the other thousand on lower springs and shocks and a general tidy up. You may have change left over depending on what sort of deals you get.

It will handle nicely, and have added grunt.
