My cam moved the power band up to about 3000, but it keeps going right to the rev limiter. It's best for a manual or auto with a stally for track/circuit work. Not the best off the line in a TLGP or 1/4.

BTW it's a RPD stg3 AU cam. Lumpy idle, but power comes on later than you indicated you'd want.

Hi Guys,

I am thinking of doing some air induction on my NC Fairlane.
What would be the best way to go? XH intake and KN panel filter or...

I am also going to be doing some work on my hood.
Shoud i get an intake vent above the airbox and fit a Pod filter?

thanks,

Hi All

I got a 4L Intech AU motor and its done 220 000 k's now ive already got a cold air intake pacemakers stainles high flow cat and a lukey mandrel system. what sort of cam should i use and i understand it will probably need new valve spring and "possibly" a bit of head work being so old and if so what springs should i go for standard or slightly harder or softer ones.

Hopefully someone can shed some light onto the situ.

Thanks.

Howdy fellas,

I have myself an EF Fairmont '95 Auto w/ Straight 6(why else would i be posting in this thread.. lol). I've decided to get myself a 2.5" exhaust system + headers, and more than likely get some cold air and possibly a cam happening.

I just want to know what you blokes think i should get, i'm looking for something that is going to sound good, but without the droning sound, while keeping the old cat, and of course, i'm chasing for a performance + economy boost.

I'm not sure yet but i may be able to get some work done for free from a mate who works in an Exhaust centre, all i need to buy is the bits and we both go in on a saturday/sunday morning, and start the work. The one thing we aren't sure on is how easy is it to change a cam for my model Ford, the reason i ask is because i can't find anything on it, a parts breakdown would even be good!

Cheers!

under the rocker cover you will have your rockers
under them you will have the cam

OHC there will be a sticker or some thing on your car that would say that
but it;s not a big job
shiming up the rocker gear on the other hand well
that can be a bit tricky

dawg1000: XH Snorkel and K&n/BMC filter is the way to go.

Futura_99: The type of cam you select is all up to personal preference, and then when you have selected a cam you can then choose matching valve springs.
So what exactly are you after?

Hazman: Doesn't really matter what cat-back exhaust you go for, as long as it's a 2.5" mandrel bent system. Most people find even without the rear resonator it won't drone.
As for extractors try and make sure (as with the exhaust) that the pipes are mandrel bent. Smaller pipes are generally better for performance and economy on these engines too (funnily enough).

Cheers,
Voxace

cam change is easy mate,

can be done with 2 people in 2 hours or so.

add a little more time if you plan to have an engine bay fire and strip it all down again ;)

it took me 2 hrs to change lifters in my xr6 last week.
one tip - don't do it just after you've been driving it.

did you have a fire in your engine bay gaz? lol.
