I've had major head work done to my 95DT head by Gilbert's P & A Cylinder Head Services, these guys really know the EA-AU 3.9/4.0. I've tried like every off shelf system made for EL 4.0, it's taken me years to make a system that flows very well but also sounds good. I running 4480 pacemaker headers 2.5" redback high flow cat, 2.5" mandrel bent pipe into hotdog just before diff then 2.5" mandrel bent tail pipe with a mercury 2.5" high flow muffler cut in. This system sounds nothing like an off shelf sports system, it has no drone at all it is actually pretty quiet highway driving. Has a real nice lumpy growl not that horrid droning bark sound most falcons with sports exhaust have, sounds really good echoing off buildings even turns heads Real world experiences have prove what you are saying is wrong. There are 2x13 second N/A 6cyl E Series in QLD running 3" exhausts. One of the cars has a head built by Gilberts. I'm going with tickford_6 AND CVE on this one. Well an NA falcon running 13's is more then likely not a roadworthy car. I'm talking about your daily drive a car that is driven on the streets not a drag car. Yes if you built a hardcore engine that does 13sec 1/4 mile then 3" exhaust is not overkill at all but don't twist my words, fitting a 3" exhaust to a daily driven falcon is just stupid it will just end up annoying your neighbours Let's see, Kelvin daily's his 13 second Brock EA, and Paul used to daily his 13 sec N/A ED until he got a work car.... I wouldn't call Paul's ED a hardcore engine either, it is simply an AU motor, ported head, valve springs, cam and exhaust making 165 rwkw.

I've been considering using a Manta twin 2 1/2" rear section with single 3 1/2" forward pipe (maybe with a hotdog to help with droning) - thru an Aero Chamber single in / two out main muffler.

I6
Unfortunately the freakin aircon has blown up so that's taking about $400 out of my budget (I'm only allowed to do car mods with my own pocket money / beer money these days) - so I'm going to have to go with the Manta single 3" system (for V8 E-series, but it'll be simple job to connect the front end of it to the I6 instead of a Y pipe for the 8). I could hold out and save up for a while again but I've been putting up with the POS 2 1/4" press bent factory system long enough - I want a decent exhaust system NOW! It was actually only going to be 3" front pipe thru a single in / two out muffler and into the 2 1/2" twin tailpipes (I said 3.5 just to shi tstir) - and for no more technical reason than I've experienced how damned FINE a car goes when it's run with the exhaust manifold open to atmosphere - ie. no exhaust system at all - so wanted to see how a fairly huge system would go and sound - pretty much guaranteed it would be better than the factory exhaust and it already hoses down factory AUIII XR6 below 4000rpm with that...

2.5" is good for about 400-500hp non blown but on a na6 3" could be good, pressbent is crapp mandrel bends are good, but i wouldnt waste the mney on a varex muffler they are just a wast of money, go a good old lukey or a walker (same company different stamp), ive got a 2.5" lukey from extractors to tail pipe all mandrel bent, and it goes good, it's not too loud but not too quiet it had a nice sound but doesnt drone through the car all the time,
