I am about to fit another motor to my el and I am curious about the cam. It appears to be a normal for cam except for a number 4 stamped on the back end of the cam. Is this a known mark for a regrind or a factory cam and if it is a regrind will it work with a cop ecu?

To my knowledge, ford cams had no numbers stamped on them, Tickford cams had a red stripe of paint on them, that was the only difference. If it has a number stamped on the face or back, there is a good chance that it is a regrind. Factory cams had the info embossed on the shaft itself, if its a regrind, without putting it on a cam profiler there would be absolutely no chance of saying what it is.

It has the embossed numbers between the lobes like a factory cam but its the 4 that has me curious. So basically I need to pull the cam out and have it messured to find out if it is different to a stock cam?

^^^^^^^^^^^ What he said ^^^^^^^^^^^^.

Even the old regrinds from Ivan Tyhe were stamped...like TQ20 or TQ30.

My 1673 has only wades part # in it, as does the 977b so does that mean they grind the Ford # off?
