Has anyone had any problems with engine revs taking ages to go down? ie: rev to 4000rpm in neutral and it takes ages to get back down to idle? just wondering if its just an injected engine thing, or if its not normal an i need to get it checked out. its really annoying-effects gear changes (its manual) and driveability of the car

check the throttle cable
it may be fraying and catching against the outter insulation

Is yours modded much???
Cause I have the same thing and I think its because of a vacuum problem. A vacuum canister should fix it. I know its because my cam is pretty lumpy, but there could be something else behind it...Jonno said something about the idle control sensor??? Sorry that i can't help you much.

ill check the throttle cable this weekend.
nah i dont have many mods at the moment. only mods are exhaust and larger air intake so shouldnt have any effect on it, plus it was doing it long before i did anything to it.

Idle speed controller. the thing on top of the throttle body. it has a black plug going to it. disconect the plug (while the engine is warm) and see if the problem goes away. Had the same prob in my mates i6, ended up we just left the ISC disconnected permantly (cleanig the bastard didnt help either)

Yep, sounds like the ISC.
Try disconnecting it, see how it goes. If it wont idle then you'll have to adjust the base idle. Prolly more important for autos...

Yup.. ISC.
I have disconnected mine in my EL manual because its a pain in the a** to drive when the revs don't drop quick enough

Hey,
Try cleaning our your Idle Control Solenoid located on top of the throttle body |

ive fiddled with the black knob on the throttle body, but didnt seem to change anything look over the back of the TB - you'll see the throttle cable, with a screw under it - thats the base idle screw! adjust it up or down how you need to!

ive been driving with my isc disconected for the last few days now, and its much easier to drive. no more hunting at the traffic lights, revs drop while changing gears. just a bit tricky first thing in the morning, but ill just have to put up with it for now
