Hi Guys,
Does anyone know of any aftermarket conrods (strong) for the 4.1L crossflow. Ive seen turbo ones which state "Custom rods" but don't know where they get them. Just thinking of making a strong bottom end for the addition of the turbo. How good are the standard rods ? ie with ARP rod bolts installed ? Can you make a strong bottom end on standard rods ? Get some 4L I6 rods and get chev rod bolts fitted a mate has done heaps of them and swears by it (he has turbo 4.1)

guy i know is running 200ci rods and pistons to match in his speedway car..... the rods sure as hell arent the weak point in his engine, the valvetrain is the first thing to let go

he hasnt been able to find any way of stopping pushrods from bending over 6000-6500rpm

Oh OK, I wasn't planning on going that high, maybe 5000 - 5500.
6500 is quite high for a long stroke motor. Having said that I saw a guy rev his 460 to 6500 on the weekend. And that was just in the driveway unloaded. Mike |

Dude, im confused
I have seen that ACL make pistons to run the 200 rods, but why would you want to run longer rods ? My manual says 149.38mm for 4.1 and 159.36mm for 3.3 Wouldn't the shorter rods be stronger ? Mike |

IIRC:
longer rod at same stroke=longer time at TDC=when combustion pressure eventually pushes the piston down, there's more force=more power you'll find that it's becoming a relatively common thing to run 302 rods in a 351 cleveland with pistons to suit the new application

mm i6 rev limiter is at 5500
and it dont have pushrods unless it pre EA ie xe xf... i know SVO xr6 revs his out to 6300rpm on the stock bottom end

I found this interesting explanation of rod lengths on the Fordmuscle page.
http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2003 ... dex2.shtml "The consensus amongst engine manufacturers is that a ratio of 1.50" is the lowest acceptable rod ratio for a street motor. Realistically, rod ratios between 1.65" - 1.80" are ideal." I calculated the ratio of the 4.1 and it comes out at 1.5 (lowest acceptable) and with the 200 rods it would be 1.6 (almost ideal). Hey Disco Frank, were talking about 4.1L crossflow here.
My rev limit is what ever I want it to be, cause I designed the computer But I wouldn't go over 5500, just seems cruel, crossflows sound busy at high revs, not sweet like an RB26. Mike |

The AU rods are longer than pre AU rods as well !!
They would be more plenyfull.. Btw if you know the big end size etc this may help... http://www.cdpautomachine.com/ecatalog/eaglerods.html

tehy not really a part that will let go just make sure they are all ballanced and not fractured and you could put a good 14psi on them before any trouble and that if a big boost you get awsome power with that but if you looking at more just for peace of mind get some aftermarkets.
i bout to do a cappa super charger kit in the next couple of months and my old man is a mechanic and we just gonna do bottom end new pistons and rings and cylinder hone just for reliability issues cos car has done 200.000km and it will be round 9 psi. and dad has no issues with using standard con rods
