ok so who has done it and how hard was it to do? I reckon that it would be worth while doin though cause I reckon a manual behind my Falcon would be awesome.

after talking to nick and finding out how many ppl have done it, i'm very tempted to get it done now.
looking at around $1000 - $1500 for the box from what i've seen so far, but fitting it; is it fairly easy to do yourself or are there decent shops around in melbourne that do a drive-in sideways-out service? like mark from ITS, he appears to be able to do it for $1250 with box installed... weighing up my options, i'm sure a few other ppl might be interested in knowing this.

Remove centre console and T bar. Put vehicle up on 4 stands Remove tailshaft Spill s**t of fluid everywhere Swear Remove auto cooling lines Remove auto wiring Remove selector linkage Put trolley jack on rear of auto Unbolt trans crossmember Lower trans by jack Swear as more fluid pisses out. Clean up fluid Put oil catch pan under rear of auto Lower further Swear as top radiator hose pulls itself from radiator and spills coolant everywhere Clean up coolant. Lower further Swear as you hear the exhaust crack because you didn't unbolt it. Unbolt exhaust. Lower further till engine leans against firewall Unbolt gearbox from engine except one bolt which wont come out Undo toque converter from flex plate Move jack to centre of gearbox Graze knuckles many times as you attempt to remove final bolt Finally get it out. Remove gearbox. Unbolt flex plate & remove Have spacer between engine and gearbox fall on arm cutting it. Swear Get bandaid Swear when you realise the stupid ford crank has holes right through the crank so oil leaks out from motor. Clean up oil and tilt engine forward a tiny bit Remove auto fluid cooler piping Get flywheel Fit to engine Swear when you realise you left the spacer plate off Unbolt flywheel & remove Fit spacer plate Fit flywheel Swear when you realise you left the spigot bush out. Drive to spare parts shop Get spigot bearning Fit spigot bearing Fit clutch Fit bellhousing Fit gearbox Connect up reverse switch, speed sender, 7k resistor to selector switch and 1.2k resistor to temp sender in auto loom so you dont need to buy a manual ECU Raise gearbox Bolt to chassis Reconnect radiator hose and top up with water Fit tailshaft Remove dashboard Remove auto brake pedal box and fit manual brake/clutch pedal box Install clutch cable Refit dashboard Remove top of gearbox and fill up with auto trans fluid Refit top of gearbox Fit trim around gear selector Start and drive. I've surely forgotten a few things and many swearing incidents but that should be a beginning. Few hours eh? Pigs a***. |

Ahh...
Didn't see the "we" bit. I thought it was done on your own, in which case it would be almost impossible to do in 3-4 hours, even if you had already done it eleventy billion times... |

its an awesome mod and very worthwhile
hardest part is changing the pedal box - especially if you have an alarm and splits etc fitted best mod ive done so far

Yep, this mod is DEFINATELY worthwhile. its a good learning curve aswell.
Some tips when you go ahead, try not unplugging all the plugs from the dash, as some are hard to find . If for the manual box you get an EA wiring loom, maybe it was just me, but the wires in the plug need to be rearranged so that the speed works and all. The resistors help alot, definately do that. Um... Take it out of gear before starting it. Get a new spigot bearing. Get a new clutch, and XR6 one if you can. (not necessary, but its a while Im down there sort of thing). Get some steelies. But yeah, worthwhile conversion, definately worth it. And you won't regret it. As for the box, I picked up a whole manual car (well almost whole) for $1000, and I got everything from that. Sold s**t here and there, and the box didn't cost me much in the end. and its also good having spare parts at your hand. A conversion kit you can pick up for probably around the $600 mark. And there will be people on here that would be willing to give you a hand (Thanks Guys ), I would.. but you're a bit far. So yeah, go for it! Cheers

I'm on the look out for a decent T5 and all necessary parts do it as well. I am sick of these damn Commies beating me off the line. Stupid gear box ratios

The ITS Performance conversion kit, i think $1250? What exactly does that include? Box, pedal box, cables, flywheel, what other stuff that i dont know of!! What about ECU?

Mate, If you go ahead with it, let me know, and i can probably give you a hand. Did it yo my el about 6 weeks ago. Took me a full day (working on my own). Hardest part I found was probably getting the box itself in, cause it kept wanting to fall off the jack. For the pedal, I had a Mal Wood clutch pin, which bolts into the standard auto pedal box, and I ended up just cutting the brake pedal down to size, heaps easier than changing the pedal box itself.

Geez, why do people keep asking about the ECU? FFS, its been posted eleventy billion times that you DONT NEED a manual ECU to convert your car to manual. Two resistors, worth less than 5c for both is all you need to fool the auto ECU into believing the slushbox is still there.
Edit - maybe I shouldn't complain. If people want to spend money, why should I try to stop it, I may start supplying manual ECU's with two additional resistors installed |
