I'm also keen on this. It's a good bang-for-bucks mod by the sound of it :)

Im a bit concerned that the throttle shaft might break now that you have weakened it by removing half of the shaft...

is it possible to keep the shaft fully intact?

the original throttle assembly uses the same method.

have a look at a real one.

i see no reason for taking any more meat off the shaft than a standard one has.

I just fitted a bigger throttle body in my car. I got it from ebay at a place in melb. called melb. carburators. They told me it is a 70mm bore & a 69mm butterfly. TPS is spot on no adjusting.
WHAT A DIFFERANCE it made to my car. I am IMPRESSED. I recommend it to everybody & a must do for a MOD. It gave me more midde rang to top end pull. I felt the differance rightaway when i went for a drive. I will dyno my car again to see the differance. Will keep you posted.

Also he told me when he made the first one for a bloke in melb. he ran a half a second faster at calder down the quarter.

Is this the same one? [http://cgi.ebay.com.au/FORD-EF-AU-series-1-PERFORMANCE-70MM-THROTTLE-BODY_W0QQitemZ350137519862QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Car_Parts_Accessories?hash=item350137519862&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2|65%3A1|39%3A1|240%3A1318]

YES. The only thing is that if he gives you a AU thottle body the idle control solinoid is differant to a EF-EL one. Also the AU one does not have a vacuum port under neath the throttle body. I know because he gave me a AU one & this is the trubble i faced but no problem for me. If you get the AU one to put on a EF-EL you can't block off the rear port on the rocker cover you will get engine fums not escaping. I put a oil catch tank with a beather to over came this problem. If you don't want to spend any more money ring & ask for a EF or EL one.

i have 2 spare throttle bodies that i will be getting machined, so i can run 2 exchanges at the same time. then i get the next 2 machined and so on.

im not sure about fitment on an AU, maybe someone can confirm this???

i am running a half shaft TB at the moment, and have been for a while, there is no problems with strength as there is still a 4mm section of hardened steel remaining. the airflow will be ALOT better with half of the shaft removed as the air will slide over the face of the butterfly much smoother. and at WOT it increases the available open area of the bore.

with the TBs on EBAY, they claim 70mm but its not actually possible to bore out any more than 68 as the bearings which the shaft rotates in will intrude on the machining and get damaged. 69mm is the longest point of the butterfly as it is an elipse, it is 68mm horizontally to fit size for size with the bore, otherwise it will float around.

the TBs will be clocked up indivdually on the mill, there will be no difference in accuracy between them, they will be bored out using a 68mm boring bar...

i will find out this week when i will have the 1st 2 completed

I halved the shaft holding the manifold 6 butterflies like is being done with this T-body mod, it's tough metal and won't break, imo

this looks like an interesting mod. EA-ED TB's are identicle, but differ from EF/EL and AU are different again, so you might need 3 TB's going at once. i wouldnt mind doing this mod to see what happens
