Well i did a couple of time trials on the weekend with a mate sitting behind me with a stop watch. 2 attempts From a dead stop.

1) 7.85sec 30m wheel spin

2) 7.59sec 10-15m wheel spin

note: all done on a private road

I need to get fatter tyres the 205's just spin to easy. I can't even stall up the auto anymore at the lights. I just get wheel spin and smoke pissing out. I could stall it up when i first brought the car stock as a rock.

Might get a set of 16in rims very soon!

Cheers Luke

Timing that sort of thing with a stopwatch is hideously inaccurate
I'd say you've overestimated by a second or so!
I wouldn't expect a heavy auto fairmont with an exhaust to do 0-100 in less than 8 seconds.

SMH got the EL GT to do 0-100 in 7.9 seconds and that's really a 200kw EL fairmont...

Having said this, your exhaust would have freed up a fair bit of power and sounds like very low km on the engine...

Id say you need to revise measurement techniques... Gtech or hit the 400m

yeah, the stopwatch method is not very reliable,

but since I own an EF, and you have an EL, s**t yeah, that's an awesome time!!!!!!!!

Seriously, I dunno if a 1650 kg falcon can crack sub 8's, coz stock they're in the 9.8 sec range. If you had a BA, that would be another story, that thing is so friggin quick for a stock taxi rep mobile.

BAs are even heavier... but damn quick for their weight. Says a fair bit about the strength of the new motors.

Not hard to get e-series falcons sub 8, but no stuffing around:

stopwatches suck big time

g-tech or video camera at the cluster is better

7.8ish sounds quick, but hey if your smoking up the tyres in an auto without stalling it up then who knows...

I noticed that after fitting the extractors and the modified cat? it now shifts 2nd gear between 70-80km/hr. Before the pacemaker's it would shift at 60-70km/hr.

When it was bog stock it was around the low 9sec mark.

cheers Luke.

I'd say that is inaccurate also. You are doing it pretty much the right way though. The mate with the stopwatch should tell you when to go, and then you tell him when you've reached 100km/h.

I've done it 3 times with Jaysen and his Fairmont EF V8 and got an average of 8.8 seconds, each time being within .3 of average.

I forgot to mention the car has a tickford head on it. The mechanic who is doing the 3 year services(under warranty) pointed it out to me about 1 month ago when it got it's first 6 month service. It has a "T" symbol at the front of the head. Mechanic told me it must have done a head when brand new and got replaced with that?or it got specially optioned up for the cane farmer I bought the car from.

didnt ford have to release 50 or so el's with the tickford head because of some prob at the factory? you could have one of those. Also i think that if you have a mate doin the time on a stopwatch then its pretty hard to be too inaccurate, i belive in the stopwatch method if you do at least 4 runs.

EF Ghia II and EL Fairmonts etc got the XR6 engine... Nothing fancy about the engine, same bottom end, slightly larger exhaust port and a few other odds n ends. Results in a poofteenth of hp increase...

If you want a fast car, dont buy a family sedan... You've got a good cruiser that should see a quarter mile time in the 15 sec bracket no worries.

i'll let you guys know how it goes down the quarter. but yeah i was very suprised about the results. Although it pulls like a train now since the pacemaker's and cat conversion.
