hey guys was just wondering what the difference between the 8.5mm leads and the 10mm leads?
the reason im asking this is i got a new starter motor put into my car and the car now has trouble starting on petrol and lpg!!!
Will the 10 mm leads give me more power or just a better spark with new spark plugs?
what brands do u suggest and wat price range?

About 1.5mm..... sorry couldn't resist.

I've got 9mm leads, Top Gun by memory, do the job well.

Sorry, can't remember where I got them from, I have seen Eagle 9mm & 10mm leads at Sprint Auto parts, but I think most speed shops will make up a set. Remember if you get a set as direct replacement for the Ford ones they will be quite long so they can go along the motor and cross over the rocker cover at the back, some people like to get smaller length ones and take them straight over the rocker cover from the plug. I think the 10mm ones are called race leads, not sure what benefit they would be over the 9mm or 8.5mm ones? maybe better crossfire resistance? or different core size to carry more spark without loss?

If you have 6 foot long Mr Tickle type arms they are quite easy to fit, however if you are like most of us they can be a real b**ch, pull out the airbox (and you can sort of wiggle an arm up under the BBM manifold), get a torch and find some patience. Do one at a time so you know which one goes where. Make sure they clip onto the coil pack fully, sometimes you may think they are on but they haven't fully seated.

the difference is in how thick the shielding is IIRC. Tickford_6 should be able to confirm though. Also, there is nothing wrong with the $60 off the shelf Bosch leads from Supercrap

Your new starter motor shouldnt have made it harder to start?

I think judging by his user name it is an EF, no dizzy, just a coil pack.

If it is backfiring, check the plugs, make sure leads are seated fully, check the airbox hasn't blown it's clips, and also check the intake piping hasn't split, depending on what type of mixer yours has it can also dislodge the mixer inside the elbow near the throttle body. I use to find all of the above would happen to mine at different stages after backfiring on LPG.

You can get top gun 10mm leads on ebay to suit the 6cyl they are not listed but just ask one of the guys that sell them for the v8's I think they were like 80 bucks or something like that I have them on my car didn't really notice a difference.

Only difference between the 8.5 and 10mm leads is the thickness of the insulation. Big of a wank actually.
A standard Ford ignition system wont generate enough voltage for the thicker insulation to be required.
They look good but.
