just wondering if my 02 sensor, showing 8 ohms is ok?
the manuals all say acceptable resistance is 4-5 ohms. could this be causing my fuel consumption issues?

i get readings all over the joint, i cant really tell as the voltage fluctuates too quickly, from about 0.2-1.0V
what are "out there" readings?

You might find it easier to run a self diagnosis of the ECU first, just to see what codes come up (if any) - for EEC IV & V, the fault codes are as follows:
172 Oxy Sensor running lean. 173 Oxy Sensor running rich. Your manual should detail how to do this - if you get either code, then you can go to the sensor itself and troubleshoot it - the Gregory's I have is quite good in this regard and points you to other components to check also.

i ahve 2 manuals, one efi manual detailing all the fault codes and the gregorys. the only thing is, it only mentions some specific computerised insturument to read the fault codes "unfortunately, ford has not released..."

My manuals are Gregory's, which I have for EB II-ED, EF & EL. I can't find mention of what model your car is - It's not an XF is it? In that case, maybe someone else might be able to help you?
As far as the "E" series goes, all you really need is a test light or multimeter (test light is better), to read the codes from your diagnosis connector. If you are near a Supercheap Auto outlet, they have a 4 piece auto and home tester kit, costs $5-$10 from memory - I have one, very handy.

My AU seems to be having the same problems. It is using about 20L/100km. I checked the resistance of my HEGO and it was 8ohms also. I have it booked in with ford but it might save a bit of cash just to replace the sensor....

jusat because ur car is using alot of fuel doesnt mean the o2 sensor is faulty. o2 sensors actually dont stuff up that much and its usually other problems like, leaking manifolds, faulty air flow or map sensor ect.

another thing ive noticed is extremely hot exhaust emissions. the tailpipe gets hot enough to scald you prettyy badly (the chrome tip).
i think it has to be a sensor. as for leaky manifolds/etc, the car has done 70,000 km. not terribly much should go wrong at that short a distance

You need analog multymeter, digital averages reading....

You do know you shouldn't use a multimeter to read resistance of a oxygen sensor because the voltage applied to the sensor will cause damage
