thats all good and well if i can afford to drive up there and have a loan ready to go,i could of got an eb but it had the same engine the ea has,,i would like to put a 4 litre in it for the extra bit of grunt cause the basic car is sound and solid.
anyone got a 4 litre they can put in for me??

half clean EB/D doesn't mean it'll be any better then a well looked after EA...
Sure there were alot of bad ones, but over the last 16 years, the unworkable ones have been forced off the roads, and faulty parts replaced in the ones still on the road. EB/D's are getting old as well, so I say stick a new engine in the EA, for a few reasons: 1) buying a new car is the easy bit, buying a new car with rego, rwc etc costs alot more, plus there is stamp duty, and you have to change over rego/insurance etc (not that that is hard compared to swapping out an engine etc, but still) 2) you know the EA's history, you have no idea in the long run what you are buying 3) main problems with the EA: 3 speed auto, head gasket issues, cooling issues, casting issues...all solved by a newer engine and transmission plus you seem pretty sure when it comes with what you'd rather do, so i say go for it.

anyone got a 4 litre they can put in for me?? well i guess if your not willing to try you never get the good deals. it's not hard to find them just have keep your eyes open and be prepared to some searching around |

For the 4.0 MPFI and 4spd swap id suggest a wrecked EBII or ED for all the conversion bits, getting all the parts seperately from the wreckers would be too painfull (you need looms and a WHOLE lot of stuff).
you could always take your 2G and whatever you could get for the EA and buy a nicer EA (2g would get you a gold plated EA) or an EB/ED (that isnt as nice)

i'd like to look around but finaces don't allow for it,i'd also like to put a 4 litre in the ea but i have already done the head gasket ,so i know what's been done and what needs to be done in the future.
i don't want to put another engine in it to find i have to do the hg again,,not cool,,i'm just going to get what needs fixing fixed.

i agree with some of the coments about the ea. but other then the cfi engine and 3 speed auto they are much the same as eb/ed. i own a eb xr8 and a ea spac mpfi 5 speed i brought the ea as a work/shoping car as i was sick of people scratching my xr8 when i park at shoping centres. the ea is as reliable as the eb and much better on fuel. i wouldnt go as far as saying they are s**t.. because the ebs up to el still have some of the same head gasket and oil leak problems.. if your ea is boring you why not convert it to manual or update some of the parts to ed as they have the same body shape. so if your ea is in good condition you should keep it. |

Pete still an overly complicated, time consuming and expensive way to get what you could, i spose in some desperate way, call an EB or ED. you'll look back in 12 months by wich time you'll still have an EA with nothing fixed or you'll have an EA with a bunch of EB/D parts and think to you self f**k i wish i didn't keep this thing. cos you'll iether have a s**t box worth nothing or an EA with some EB/D parts thrown in with a resale value of an EA. and you'll end up behind when you sell it for some thing better. but hey go for it, it's not my money but if your going to keep it heres a little advice, pull both windscreens out and have the rust fixed now befor it gets out of hand. even if you cant see it, it's there. also have the rust on the inside of the sills treated. |
