Did it just stop whilst in motion?
Does the smart lock light stay on?
Does the car crank and not fire?
Can you hear the fuel pump run for a few seconds when you turn the key to 'on'?

I'd look for the following.
1: Main fuse under the bonnet (30amp)
If this is blown. simply try the ABS fuse in its place and try to start it.
If this is blown and blows the new fuse... Most likely its the fuel pump with a closed circuit Or the relay is faulty.

2: Check the interior light fuse, in fact all fuses inside the cabin.

3: Try hitting the BEM (Just infont of your left Knee when sitting in the car)
Yes the panel at your knee has the BEM behind it (these sometimes get dry joints and condensation can affect it... and a lot of the time tapping/hitting it can cause the car to start 'better'

4: Check that the crank angle sensor isn't clogged with s**t (above the harmonic balancer)

5: If it is auto and it was parked and now won't start... your inhibitor switch may be defective.

6: Can't think atm Pizza's here!

it DEFINITELY has fuel and spark?
if it's ef, does every plug have a good spark?
does the injector 'inject'?
if you hold your foot flat to the floor will it run?

does it even crank over?

if you've got air, fuel, spark, compression then timing must be stuffed

Take off the oil cap and peer inside. If you cant see the rockers moving but it still ranks, timing chain could be stuffed. When you crank it does it sound like its actually trying to start or does it sound like its cranking TOO freely. Exact same thing happended to mine, crankning no worries, but the topwas dead because the chain had snapped.

wont be a broken timing chain unless you can hear the cylinders slapping against the valves on every stroke....

only takes 1 stroke to bend them out of the way.
not to mention only 2 valves would be open anyway.
