Hey guys so i own a 97 EL falcon sedan and its been backfiring and splatering so i replaced the coil pack, distributer,re done the timing, new fuel pump, new fuel filter, new spark plugs, new spark plug leads. Yet still running bad so toke it to the mechanic yet this mechanic soundly like he didnt know what he was on about anyways he guessed that the gear for the distributor inside the engine is stripped which causing timing to jump what do you guys think about this please drop some comments thanks...

can't really help with the cause of it's running, but. he [the mechanic] means the aux shaft [i believe]. you should have noticed any abnormal wear on dizzy drive when you replaced it? [by the way when replacing the original dizzy with any other ALWAYS replace the new dizzy drive with the original part. saves stuffing up the aux shaft]. running bad could be a leaky vacuum line etc sorry i cannna help more.

When you replaced the distributor, did you replace the whole unit with new TFI module? Did you also change the drive gear of the distributor with the old one? It is recommended to change the gear over as it is already meshed in with the auxiliary shaft in the engine.

Have you changed your harmonic balancer? make sure it hasn't slipped, will cause issues when you try and set your timing. When you set the base timing, did you put the car into Diagnostics mode?

You said you changed your fuel filter/pump, have you checked the injectors/fuel rail/fuel regulator? Injectors may need a clean/service, if they are, just get reco AU ones and throw them in, better spray pattern.

When you replaced all the ignition parts, did you go through the wires? Make sure they are all good and not corroded.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head.
