Driving all of a sudden when I put my foot down after the lights the car coughs, jumps, heard some loud sounds from muffler and then went jumpy every 2-3 secs for another 100m till it completely died. Just like a car running out of petrol. The temp risen bit more than usual there was petrol and motor turns but no firing at all. Prior to this the car was shaking like misfiring until I went for bit more on the accelerator. Could this simply be fuel supply like fuel filter? Or dissy and electrics and all. There is great sparks out the leads I tested or if anyone has any suggestions what could be the problem pls let me know thank you |

Block fuel filter can cause issues, but I wouldn't think it would just die. Also check your injectors, make sure they are firing.

when the car is ON - I can hear the fuel pump making noise then stops just like it normally works. Does this mean the whole fuel pump relay thing is out of the question and the fuel pump is OK too?
That leaves me with the filter which I will check tomorrow. Or what would be other causes - dissy or leaks or fuel map or any of that stuff or cat converter etc - Im just throwing these in to see if anyone can pick up anything that may have happened to them similar to this thanks |

I had an ignition coil in an old *coughcommodorecough* die once, and it did exactly as you described.

get someone to hit the fuel tank where the fuel pump is while trying to start it. if it starts it is the fuel pump. Or try some aerostart into the airbox while trying to start.

are you sure its the problem?
could possibly be the fuel pump relay too(green one below the coolant tank) jack it up, put some axle stands under the chassis the coils' mounted under the intake between the starter and dizzy, 1x 8mm head bolt and 1x 10mm. undo them then remove coil-dizzy lead then unplug the coil wiring clip then reverse this procedure to replace it. might pay to try a used coil first to see if it is that, you can just hang it alongside the orginal one |

just adding - when I try to start - there is spark on spark leads - would this rule out the coil then?

It would rule out a completely stuffed coil that doesnt work at all, but it wouldnt rule out a coil that is breaking down under load, however, I would suggest that it's probably not the coil or the dissy, and that it is infact fuel related. Fuel pump would be my geuss, as mentioned, get someone to hit the fuel tank whilst trying to start it. Is the car on Gas? Gab |

dizzy is easy enough from the top
remove the airbox first, and get a long 1/2" extension bar for your soccket set, undo the dizzy locking bolt from ontop of the motor inbetween the 2nd and 3rd? intake runners. also before trying to remove the dizzy cap, make sure the engine is sitting at tdc this will help you seup the new dizzy and also puts the rotor pointing in the best position to remove the cap without damaging anything another thing when replacing the dizzy, make sure you follow the correct procedure for setting the timing afterwards. |
