Does anyone know if an air conditioner from a car can be pulled out from the wreckers and modified using an electric motor as a drive and used in the house? Not that im a tight-a** but just think it would be cool if it weren't very hard.

Yes you could, you would only need add a motor and belt, 12v supply and a fan to provide air flow through the evaporator.

However as the 2 other post suggest why????? I highly doubt that a car AC would provide enough cooling for the average home.

it'd be good for the shed/garage, i thought about doing this a while back, had all parts including air con system out of old fairlane, washing machine motor, and spare angle iron but couldn't be buggered and ended up fixing an old evaporative cooler instead.

I still recon fit a house aircon in the back window and run a generator in the boot. ( very redneck )

Ha Bloody Ha! If you used an inverter with one of these latest type inverter units you would have Inverter Inverter Air conditioning.
