Hey fordmods.com.au
I've recently been having some problems with my falcon. Its a 1994 EF Futura, 5 speed, 6cyl, with extractors, high flow cat, 2.5" catback with 2 straight through mufflers, and an SS bigmouth air intake. She's been serviced every 7500 like clock work and usually runs well. However for a while now, the car revs to about 2200 rpm on its own, whenever it's in neutral or my foot is on the clutch. I read that it could have been the the idle speed motor that was the cause of the revving. I disconnected the ISM to see if that was the case, the car no longer instantly revved to 2200 on start up, but if I put my foot on the clutch it will still rev right up. At idle at the moment the car will rev to 2200, but drop back down to regular idle after about 20 seconds or so. However the idle is really rough. It makes it difficult to drive the car, because when changing gears the revs pick right up. I tried cleaning out my current ISM, this had no effect. I also replaced the ISM with a new unit, which also had no effect, so I returned the part. Any ideas fordmods ? I miss driving my falcon normally ! Thanks. No-rice. |

Set the base idle and check for any vacuum leaks.

Didn't even consider vacuum leaks.
Are there any problem areas on these falcons for vacuum leaks ? And how do I go about identifying them ? Soapy water ? |

Finding vac leaks is easy. grab some carby/throttle cleaner spray and spray it over all the intake gaskets. if there is a leak the engine revs will change when it draws in the spray. |

My brake pedal isn't perfect, it seems to go soft sometimes when braking, and the rotors / pads make a weird noise.
The pads have been changed recently. ah ok, so it could be my inlet manifold gasket ? or a hose maybe ? |

Ceck you PCV hose where it goes to the manifold.

I was hinting at the vacuum hose for the brake booster being split or the diaphragm in the booster being split or the booster body having a crack in it. |

Thanks for the help so far.
I'll have a look for vacuum leaks tomorrow and report back. |
