Hey guys,
As some of you may have read elsewhere, my AU Goes like crap lately. Well for quite a while now, ever since i took it to Ford. The fuel pump was oversuppling fuel to the engine, and i took it to them to get sorted. They did a diagnostic tune, cleaned injectors, cleaned & Regapped spark plugs and replaced the fuel pump. Since then, another machanic we use told us that it would have deffinately been fuel regulator not pump & that they ripped us off. But ever since ford had it the car has been ALOT slower. I was doing 0-100 in the 8 seconds normally 8.4 or 8.7 depending on starts. Since ford had it the best i have done is 11.7, but normally in the 12's and tested again last night and i couldnt get below 14.3, which is piss poor and i could do it faster pushing the thing with only 1 leg. Now i have been taking note of how it performs, and it is alot slower right across the rev range but i have noticed that when te car gets to about 3200-3400 and up, the car hesitates and revs climb slower but speed doesnt really increase til it drops into the next gear. Our mechanic said he can do a diagnostic tune, but if ford have Flashed the ECU with an update he cant do anything, is there anything that could be wrong with it, or could it just be a case of ford flashing the ECU with a really crap set of Maps & stuff????? Cheers guys & sorry for the long post but thought i better explain things. Cheers. |

By the way, ford think that it is tuned perfectly and that nothing is wrong and its how it should be, and of course there right and we are wrong.

you could find out whats going on with your A/R over the rev range by strapping it to a dyno so at least you know that is definately dumping fuel, though your fuel economy is probably really s**t with your current state of tune

First mistake .... you took it back to Fraud.
Bwaaahahahaha. Now next time take it to a performance tuner.

A fuel pump in a falcon cannot really "oversupply" the engine with fuel...

Is it blowing smoke? You cant overfuel with the fuel pump alone. I am running a 255L/H pump in my stocker and it goes nicely. If anything, It sounds a little lean. Is it running at a good temprature or is it running warm?

that was my thought too, the fuel pressure regulator should send any extra pressure built up straight back to the tank. and then you still have the injectors to open up before the fuel goes into the inlet manifold/engine head. |

Not so much the regualtor that sends it back. All the unused fuel is still sent through the rail and just heads down the return line. The regulator is like a tap that opens up as the engine goes faster via a Vaccum line. One of my mates just bought a s**t billet adjustable fuel pressure regulator (The ones with the guage on the front) and cant get the pressure right! It gets to about 2000rpm and then hesitates. I rekon its running lean and the regulator isnt opening up. |

But the regulator will still open up even at idle. The Tickford one at idle regulates the pressure to 275kpa while higher revs to 300kpa.

The regulator will open up whenever there is vaccume present. If this is sticking, and not opening up, it could cause the engine to be starved of fuel. The car will still idle as the pressure from the pump can push the regulator open enough to get fuel through but if it is failing, when the car hits higher revs, It will lean out, hezitate around the 3000rpm mark and go like a bucket of s**t

yeah big mistake taking it to ford, but i needed it fixed right there & then, couldnt afford to wait.
Before it was fixed it was blowing smoke, like driving a desiel truck, but now it doesnt. It runs at perfect temp, and no other probs except that it is slow & kinda hesitates around the 3000ish mark. |

check the gaps on the spark plugs... ive seen incorrectly gapped plugs on AU's be enough to make them do exactly what u are saying...

ford cleaned & regapped plugs, & i have just put in a new set with correct gaps

I would say that there was probably a problem with your MAP sensor before hand, but now it definatley sounds like its being starved of fuel. You may need to check to make sure there is a vaccume hose on your fuel pressure regulator (May have slipped off) |
