I drove a mates car over the weekend.. An EL futura 4.0L six Auto. absolutely standard with 167,000km. I drove the car for a few hours to and from a wedding..
The owner has had the car since brand new in 1997. I couldnt beleive how well the car drove... It was absolutely effortless performance.. Punchy down low, powerful up top... It was very V8 like... I remember driving the car when it was closer to new.. I thought it could have been a bit quicker off the mark but was plenty powerful up top.. But last weekend it felt powerful everywhere, off the mark, mid range and up top. He swears black n blue it is standard... Do these motors get better with a few km on them? Years ago I would have sworn the V6 commodore would outrun it, now im sure its the other way around.. What are your impressive experiences with the I6?? I cant beleive ford will retire this motor and replace it with a nonsence torque V6

my impressive experience is with my old EA. 2 of my mates have owned it since i sold it to one of them, and they have absolutely destroyed it, just by thrashing the f**k out of it. one reckons he did 30 ringies holding it flat in first in the dirt, its been off the clock a few times, jumped over hills, revved like a f**k everyday (its a 3.9 CPI). and now the shell is all but f**k, no straight panels, bumpers hanging off, trashed interior etc.
but the one thing that kept going was the motor. its taken every thing they can throw at it, and it took it all on the nose and kept going. its still going today i think lol.

personally i love my i6.
coming from a v6 magna, i couldnt believe the torque this thing has. and whilst i'll whinge and complain that i want more power, the fact that mine can still put me in the back of the seat with minimal mods after 300,000km's is impressive

You'll be impressed if u drive a manual one, the auto's have the worlds tallest 1st gear taking heaps of life out of them, this is what gives the Commo v6 runts a fighting chance.

agree with everyone above - my eb is sittin on 300000 now. it's manual! since i replaced the dissy and rotor, this thing hammers!! tromping it in 2nd will lite up the tyres!
only mods are xh snorkel and 2.5inch cat back. Currently running a fuel saving mod - damaged shielding has taken 1 inch out of the accelerator travel so the floor = half open. works wonders for fuel economy.

I love my i6. It feels more powerful every time I drive it. I'm putting that down to the fact that I got it off a very conservative driver and nowadays it drinks premium! It must be loosening up. It's done 226,000 and only now is it starting to get to the stage where bits and pieces need replacing - still gotta do the starter and flywheel and exhaust - but hey, I'm not complaining. It's the most power I've ever got for $1400!

Such a shame Ford are turfing it and all because of the unions in america doing a deal with ford. dont be fooled being told its about emisions, its about the american auto union pushing ford to be manufacturing and selling more american made engines in a bid to keep american workers in their burgers. Even though the fact that the US economy will shet itself eventually. we loose a great engine so they can have a couple more bucks for a few years. It is a tragedy. that is all.
