G'day
Nice post, i have an xf as you would know. So alot of it is irrelevant to me except one point: Quote: Use the same broadband manifold as EF’s but were fitted with TFI distributors. EL engines that came out after January 1998 were fitted with AU heads and crank shafts
How do you know if you have an au head and crank shaft? As i have just gotten my el motor (it came from a 98 fairlane) i'm not sure which one i have. Is there a stamping somewhere with a code that tells you what it is. Cheers

The E-series sump wont go straight on because the timing cover and main caps are a different shape. I have heard (from an unreliable source) that if you put an e-series timing cover on and get the rear main cap machined that it will fit (at a cost of $30). I havent seen this done though.

good o, its a thought as the au engines with 50,000 low kays are dirt cheap at the moment, and are probably better imho than my 330990 kay ef engine... i wonder how this EA engine in my ef will go when i stick it in

stockstandard wrote: Yes the AU sump can be modified by cutting and welding a new front section as shown in this picture wow! seams to me like a revelation that its possible to weld up the front of the sump of the au to make it fit in with the standard k-frame of the EF.. why didnt i think of that!!?? BRILLIANT!! can see the au to ea,eb,ed,ef, and el gaining popularity..
This may be a better option if your into keeping thing legal as I would imagine there might be issues with cutting the k-frame (require engineering?) |

JetXR is a very popular car - if you do a search of the forums youll find heaps of info. I think its for sale at the moment as well (these pics from effalcons website)

When exactly did JETXR stick the BA engine in?
And that has to be the worst front bar i have ever seen on a Falcon

Found these AU engines on ebay
The modified sump lets it drop into ef/el's without k-frame mods. Just need someone to do the same with BA engines now...

From memory the k-frame was done by cutting slots into the k-frame on either side of the sump. The middle was then pressed in (with a hammer) and then some sheet metal was welded in to fix up the gaps.
