And can the J3 chip sort out all the electrical side of things? if so that would be half the struggle taken care of surely. AU T5 Bellhousing will bolt up with no issues, auto also is the same. You can't use a J3 chip on a DOHC PCM. You will need an Xcal3 or 4 to do the programming. |

Hey guys.
Im going to be doing an engine conversion, AU2 into a 97 EL. I have the sump already prepared. Just need to service the AU2 motor with new oils and gaskets. This will be a slow project as its more for a hobby than anything else. Im a refrigeration mechanic, so combustion engines are not my area of expertise. This thread has been a help as has this site. I have a few questions though. Im not much of a car guy so they might be fairly straightforward. My dead EL has a Wade 977b camshaft in it. Can I pull this out and put it straight into the AU2 motor before install? (AU2 is on a stand). Is there anything else I should change? Springs? Shims? Shave anything? What sump gasket do i use? I also have a J3 chip that is tuned for the wade cam but on a manual transmission, but mine is auto, I have a T5 box in a spare wreck but Im not sure I can handle doing a conversion so I will leave it as an auto. Should I get this retuned and installed before I even start the installed AU2? Can I just trade my one in and swap it for the appropriate one in a straight swap with J3? I will be putting pacemakers on as part of the swap over. Rest of Exhaust will stay stock for now. I was about to give up on this project but have been stuffed around by gumtree users and may just slowly finish it as I have everything needed except a suitable J3 and an engine crane. Help here or in PM would be muchly appreciated! |

Head will fit, you will need to use the AU Cam as well as the AU Rocker gear.
AU Thermos will not fit. You will need to use the EF or EL Units. You wil also need to run a Davis Craig thermo switch to activate the fans. |
