hey guys,
As the title says im about to purchase an EA Falcon CFI. Body wise it is almost Mint, one Tiny spot of Rust,(bout the size of a 10c peice), Has 4 new tyres, New Alternator, Head Gasket, and The 4speed auto. The Exhaust is rooted, but im having a 2.5" Lukey system put on right after i buy it. Is their anything in particular to look for when i go see it again tomorrow?? I know they are down on power compared to the MPI version, but is the fuel economy affected much? Lynx PS its costing me $700

fuel econemy is roughfly the same. you wouldnt notice it against a MPFI.
power wise yes your right they do lag a fair bit compared to the MPFI. Have you got plans of doing this up or is it just a run about car? If your going to be doing it up id wait around a bit longer and see if you can fine a 5 speed. then convert it to MPFI or something. just out of curiosity, how much are you buying it for? cheers |

yeah, depends how worked your talking about. If its your planning on doing things like cam, exhaust ect ect id really consider the 5 speed.
Just about every NA EA you see going fast is a 5 speed. no-one really bothers with the stubbern Autos |

DO NOT!!!!!!!!! Fit an electronic shift kit on it UNLESS it comes with a warranty or sum sort of guarantee. I had the same model falcon put a DIY elec shifty on it loved it for a month (spinning in2 3rd) but then was stuck in limp mode! not much fun had to buy a new trans.
Other mates 1 with a EA fairy and 1 with a EF fitted it, the fairy had same prob as me only lasted longer and the EF is still chirpin through gears 3years later!!! Mind you the kit cost $30 and about an hour to install.

i know autos can be stubborn, but my current 4wd with a 4 speed manual is more stubborn. at 430 in the morning i cant be bothered changing gears, maybe at a later stage when everything else is done ill go to a manual but for now ill keep the auto, besides for the condition its in 700 is pretty damn good.
ill post pics soon.

im looking at a www.shiftkits.com.au, thinking maybe the 2 stage.
another question, did the 4 speed only come out on the 3.9 and 4.0 litre engines? dont want to end up with a 3.3L is all

by now, id say most of the dungers are off the road. anything plagued with the first run probs would be fixed or disposed of by now.. i think the problem is the early e series cars are getting pretty old now, but for 700 bucks with rego, you cant really go wrong.

is it possible to modd the home made shift kit on the site here to fit an EA? I know they gave pin config for the EF/EL.

go the ea other then being a cfi(being a little down on power) there are generally a good car..
look in my gallery and you will see. you can put all parts from eb to ed. my ea looks like a eb or ed.. and its reliable fairly cheap to run... i bought my ea s pac in stock form for $1200 with only 169000kms so if the ea has a good body no rust ect... go for it ... as far as im conserned its pretty much the same car as eb or ed just cheaper!!! |

Why would you buy a CFi EA if your going to work it.
Buy a MPFI 5-speed dude... |

the main reason why i have gotten it is because i needed a car for work purposes as my 4wd is not reliable enough. besides its not like im going to do it up all at once. everything takes time.
any idea on how much it would cost to convert to MPI?
