hi guys
im about to try fit a ef dash into my ea and im already using a el ecu with bbm. so i need to know if there is any difference from ef to el dash looms?. i also scored a complete ef cheap and want to use the dash and loom . i know that ef's have different ecu and use coil packs so there is some difference there.. what i need to know? is the ecu plug a part of the dash loom in ef or part of the engine loom??? and will the dash loom from ef plug straight into el loom??? does anyone know how many pieces to the engine/engine bay/dash looms. im trying work out what parts of the ef loom i can use and what part of the loom needs to be el and can i splice it into the modified ea loom?.. i thought about joining the ef dash loom into the modified ea loom but i dont know if there would be much difference in the 2 looms..(plug wire colours ect) im thinking that ill be better off using a complete el loom instead of splicing into the ea loom? what do you think??? |

Having done this before, I would recommend using the EL looms. It will make most things plug and play. From memory though, you will have to swap the altenator plug, but the rest of the engine plugs should be fine. Also, unless you are running an EF?EL steering column, you will need to retain the ea wiper/indicator switches, and just change the plug. All the wire are the same, so just cut and join. Also make sure you have a decent hole saw to cut through near the drivers side footwell to run the loom through to the engine bay (through the guard). If you are retaining the original under dash handbrake, it is possible to still mount it under the new dash (will just be a bit lower than before).

ok cool.
when you say complete el loom do you mean the whole loom??(engine, dash, body and boot).?? or is the engine, ecu and dash looms seperate from the body loom.. |

When I did mine, I used all EL looms except for the one that goes to the rear of the car. All wires were just connected (again, pretty much everything is the same colours for both models). But yeah, you will need ecu, dash, and both engine looms.

I reckon it'd make things easier on yourself to go pick up a rough EL wreck from the auctions for cheap. That way you'll have every possible thing you could need - including a handbrake conversion!

Wouldn't the only different parts be to do with the coil pack?
There is a thread in here somewhere with a guy who put in a fairmont dash and used the EA ECU and loom. Just ran a couple of extra wires from memory. I reckon you could use the dash loom from the EF and keep your engine loom. Some research might be in order. I would be happy to come out and have a look. We could throw some ideas around. BenJ
