Hi all,
My ABS light is on so I decided to figure out what it was and fix it.. (97 EL) Followed the tech doc on here to put it in diag mode. Then started watching for the numbers... Got a 3 and then a 2... then a pause, then a 1, then a pause and aother 1 and after a last pause a 2. Then the light stayed on... Now 32 means rear right sensor... but what is with the rest of the stuff? Any help much appreciated. ta Frank |

Anyone???
I just discovered that my new front disks lock up very nicely when you stomp on the pedal in haste.. I'd like to get it working again so as not to risk my rather expensive tyres... but not sure what the code it's outputting mean. 32----1-----1-----2----- light stays on. anyone? ta Frank |

Are the rotors fitted with tone wheels?

yup... up till recently there has been no issues with the ABS..
Then I had an earthstrap power issue..and now I have no ABS anymore. Thought perhaps the ABS was effected by the low voltage also. |

I guess what I was asking is this...
The number codes... is it giving me 3 separate codes all at the same time or is it one code that I'm supposed to translate into a two digit number? I'm inclined to think it's the former but would like to avoid wasting time. |

have you checked the rear sensor?

Well.. not other than looking underneath and seeing that it's plugged in... I have no spare or testing method other than that.
What do you suggest? |

Measure the resistance of the sensor at the ABS unit plug.

I had the ABS light come on the EL fairmont a few years ago after driving down a damp black soil road. Did the test(gregorys manual) came back as right drivers side rear wheel. Cleaned all the s**t/mud off the tone wheel and all was good...
cheers..................

hmmm... don't think I've driven though any dirt or anything, but will give it a clean anyway.
The sensor cable seems to run down the arm to the body and up through the floor under the back seat.. I will trace that also and see if it has come unplugged anywhere.. thanks for the help guys... do either of you know what the abs sensor resistance should be? I spose I could measure the other rear one if need be and compare.... |

I tested 3 different sensors with my multimeter and couldn't get a resistance at all.. they all read open circuit... I have trouble believing that all three sensors are bad...
I also traced the wiring up under the seat, unplugged it and tested continuity to the wring in the drivers side kick panel.... (purple/black and red/pink) and there was no problem... Tried clearing the error codes as described in the tech doc.. but after doing it ten times.. the code was the same... 32..................2................1...................1...............light stays on... very odd... I'm thinking of trying to find the right rear sensor wires at the actual ABS module and see if they have continuity there.... could a bad earth strap have damaged the ABS??? |

Hmmmmm I just read the EA-ED ABS diag tech report after the EL ones... 32 on the EA-ED means low voltage not the right rear sensor (which I've now replaced to no effect)....
low voltage seems more feasable than the right rear sensor as I was having earth strap issues around the time that the light came on... starting to think that might be related.. unfortunately the ABS module pictures in both tech docs are the same meaning I can't use the docs to make sure I really have the bosch one. ITs a puzzler.... |

Just to hijack this post for a bit: In the diagnostic info, it says to delete the codes by earthing (shorting) the airbag memory pin. Can this be done to any part of the car? i.e., a good earth point, say battery neg.?
