I wouldn't disconnect the fuel lines, there is no need, and its just another thing you have to put back on....

But I want to get the plenum chamber off, and the fuel rails seem to be connected to it. So yeah, they have to come off, right?

Leroy I'm hoping to get a lift down with ol' Mitchy boy.

The manifold will come off with the fuel rail still attached dude.
Concentrate on getting the manifold bolts undone!
Don't worry about anything else for the minute.

O, and I forgot guys, I forgot to relieve pressure off the fuel system before disconnecting my battery and all that, so there is still pressure (I guess). So if I just pull the plenum chamber off, with the fuel rail, won't I have a big petrol mess all over the engine, etc.?

you wont have a mess. the petrol wont go anywhere if you just unbolt all the manifold bolts and let just move it off to the side an inch or so.

if your not doing anything in the morning i could probably come over and have a look / give you a hand

Just leave the inlet manifold there, just undo the bolts, it will stay there. There is no need to remove it when doing a head gasket.

I found a mystery plug lads.

While I was under the car struggling, greatly!, to remove the last two bolts on the underside of the chamber, I saw this plug jus sitting there. Is it just some spare plug or what, because I don't see anything it can connect to.

OKay, really can't get the last two bolt on the underside of the plenum chamber. Here is what I'm using (not the yellow handle thing though, just there to show what I have to use).

I've even tried by accessing the bolts from under the car. Someone please recommend a tool I can buy to make it easierrrrr.

I use a 3/8" drive universal 10mm socket. I can R&R a head in about 4hrs.
I got the uni-socket from the Snap-on man for $65. Man, you need some tools. How you gonna tighten it back up without a tension wrench?

Thanks Kry.

Anyone got a picture of a tool that would make removing these damn bolts easy?

Have you removed the airbox/filter assembly? You can reach up the back if you have skinny arms. I didn't realise that it was an EF/EL.
