Yeah I think I'll need a new guide now Leroy, kind of mutilated it with my pliers, lol.
Collecting the head in an hour or so. Also the bloody steel wool attachment has been shooting off bits and pieces of curly steel, is this is a worry? Hey if want to meet up some time this week Leroy, pm me. I was going to see my local Ford for a drive belt and 6 spark plugs. If you can get them cheaper, feel free, lol. I can use my mum's car and meet you somewhere over northside if you want.

Don't worry about getting plugs or the belt through Ford mate, just shoot down to supercheap, repco, bursons, whatever, look up in the books your application and grab the right ones.
Might be a bit cheaper then genuine, unless leroy hooks you up Also, don't worry about cleaning the carbon (black s**t) off the pistons. The leaky headgasket already cleaned number 1 for you, and they don't look bad at all anyway. As madmax said, worry about getting that block surface clean, then when you get the head back on, degrease the whole block and clean it up, so you can spot any leaks after the first drive. As madmax said too, to make it a bit easier cleaning the block, the guides (that round pipe things sticking up in your pics) can just pull out. They are there to guide the head and gasket when you put it on so they sit in the right place.

and yes blow the steel particles out with compressed air before they rust in there or resurface your bores on startup.

Does anyone rent out air compressor's by the hour or something?
I remember that in computer usage, something about compressed air for cleaning out your box. Would that be any good? vibr8n wrote: and yes blow the steel particles out with compressed air before they rust in there or resurface your bores on startup.
I don't think any did, but what if some when down the front of the block, where the timing chain and all that is? Could that be bad?

Here's the head and radiator after being fixed up today. Can anyone tell me what I should give the block a final clean with, please?
Cheers.

Okay, cleaned the block down as you can see. Accident hit the piston head at the bottom there with the wire attachment, found out just how thick that s**t is on it. Is this a problem? I've got the excess grit off the piston heads by using the blower as seen in picture 2, lol. Is that all I need to do with them?
Next picture is a just a wide shot of the battle ground. I have Monday off, so head should be back on then. Also should I give the rocker gear a rinse or something? Because our cat lives in the garage and a few strands of her hair are now resting on the rocker gear. Finally, the head has had it's pressure testing, thermal clean and a minor grind. Do I have the get the mofo oily again, or is it okay as it came from the shop?

use prepsol to clean the block & use hylomar when installing the head.
so the bores haven't been touched ? i think you should be able to hire a compressor. or if not go to the servo & fill up a plastic bag to take home to use .... lol. are they steel wool particles or wire brush particles ? try using a magnet to pick them up.

DO NOT USE HYLOMAR ON HEAD GASKETS AS THEY ALREADY HAVE A SPECIAL COATING ON THEM

how you touched the piston top is fine, as long as you dont touch the sides of the pistons/bores or defoprm the shape, you wont have any problems (very hard to do lol)

what exactly was done to it ? |

Head was pressure tested, cleaned up in some thermal wash thing and grinded or something, lol. $143
Good service and seemed reasonable to me. Was UMR that I used, on kut&shutkustomz's advice.

Here's a list I got,for stuff to get for the reconstruction, am I forgetting anything?
- Drive belt - Sparkplugs - Rocker cover plug (broke the one where that tube goes on the front when removing to spray paint rocker cover) - Engine oil - Oil filter - Stockings (for catchting gunk in coolant from block) - Prepsol - Degreaser (pretty filthy in some parts of the bay now) - Coolant - Thermostat and gasket - Air compresor And something to emulate the Ford special tool to loosen the tension on the drive belt tensioner.
