Bursons or repco have the tensioner tools BUT see if you can borrow them from someone as they are pretty expensive, and make sure you change the "O" rings (SEALS) in the tensioner and clean it out.

Okay, here is a final set of questions I'd like to have answer before I put the head back on. I'll break it up a little.
Head Now I got the head back, cleaned and covered in a plastic wrap. Is it right to go straight onto the block, as is? Or do I need to oil some part of it or what? Headbolts Is it unamimous that you should dip the bolts in oil before putting them in, and all the thread only, or the whole bolt? Block Once I give this a final wipe down with prepsol, it's fine for the head to sit on it right? No other preparation required, correct? Rocker gear The rocker gear has been sitting idle since removal, there seems to still be a thin layer of oil cover it. Should I rinse it down, install, and pour some oil over it? Or just put it in, as is, and pour some oil over it before securing the rocker cover on it? The camshaft has been sitting idle in the rocker gear, must still have a thin layer of oil on it too. Should I oil her up before it goes back in? Or wash down, oil and put back in? Rocker cover I have the rubber seal and gasket sealant stuff (the blue stuff). Should I secure the rubber seal in the cover first, then put gasket sealant on that? Or put the gasket sealant in the groove first and then the rubber seal? Any other parts that I have forgotten, and must be oiled or cleaned or something? Any advice with putting the head back on would be great. Thanks again to all for your help.

Hey mate.
Head: Clean it with prepsol or metho or some sort of spirits. you don't need oil when you put it back on. Head Bolts You should oil the threads and i got into the habit of oiling underneath the face of the bolt. Block once that's clean put the head gasket on and your rubber timing cover seal and the head should be right to go on. Rocker Gear I'm no real expert in this area so i'll leave it for someone else to comment. Rocker Cover. you shouldn't need any sealant for this but it's up to you whether you want to put some on.

Quote: Head Now I got the head back, cleaned and covered in a plastic wrap. Is it right to go straight onto the block, as is? Or do I need to oil some part of it or what? Don't oil the bottom surface of the head. Head gaskets have a sealant on both surfaces, oiling the head will effect the sealant. Quote: Headbolts Is it unamimous that you should dip the bolts in oil before putting them in, and all the thread only, or the whole bolt? Oil all of the thread, it wont matter if you dip the whole bolt. Quote: Block Once I give this a final wipe down with prepsol, it's fine for the head to sit on it right? No other preparation required, correct? A good idea is to wipe the bores with some engine oil. Quote: Rocker gear The rocker gear has been sitting idle since removal, there seems to still be a thin layer of oil cover it. Should I rinse it down, install, and pour some oil over it? Or just put it in, as is, and pour some oil over it before securing the rocker cover on it? Is it clean? if so put it in then pour oil over it. Quote: The camshaft has been sitting idle in the rocker gear, must still have a thin layer of oil on it too. Should I oil her up before it goes back in? Or wash down, oil and put back in? Is it clean? if so oil the top of the head, put it in then pour oil over it. Quote: Rocker cover
I have the rubber seal and gasket sealant stuff (the blue stuff). Should I secure the rubber seal in the cover first, then put gasket sealant on that? Or put the gasket sealant in the groove first and then the rubber seal? A small amount of sealant on the rocker cover itself will help hold the gasket in place. Then smear sealant on the bottom face of the gasket once its installed in the covers groove.

My father-in-law, who owns a engine recondition shop, recommends not to use that seal at all. Just a thick bead of selastic. I did this on my EA and it never leaked again.
