Well, I have lost a 1mm or so of coolant off the surge tank only two or so days after emptying and refilling the cooling system, and I think I may of found where it ended up.
Observe, is my headgasket gone?

Yeah it would be better to take it off now, If you keep driving it like that it could make it worse.

Nah, not really Seannyb, acceleration is poor when cold for like 5 seconds though, stutters for a moment.

Yeah i don't see the boot bit helping, lol.
Anyway, this is possible without removing the whole engine, right? Just a little bit more difficult?

Just keep undoing bolts till the head comes off, the head gasket is rooted, invest in a torque wrench and enjoy the experience of owing a EF...
