Is it really costly to add a Turbo or SuperC'er to a FG XR6

I'm really enjoying my new FG. But wish I had the cash up front for the XR6T

What can I do to gain say 25-30% more power(KW,HP)etc
Thx
Dan

You would spend less money selling the fg and buying an xr6t. By the time you get all the parts such as turbo, manifold, dump pipe, computer, it all turns into a costly exercise. Why turbo a non turbo fg if they come standard with one.

Standard xr6t with possibly an exhaust and flash tune with heavier wastegate actuator to run a little more boost would see you a nice power figure. And would save stuffing around chasing up all the gear for it.

And the turbo models would have slightly less compression ratio I think??

Well if thats the case then its a terrible idea. Its a pain in the a** to swap cars with the transfer fees and other crap, but you will have a lot less trouble down the track.

mate 5 grand and a tune and you can have a raptor supercharger kit check there website kit will be complete and out in 2 more weeks they are fitting and testing on an Fg As we speak mate they haven finished yet but getting close they are expecting about the same power out of it As a stock turbo As the compression ratios are very similar in the na to the turbo. Plus they assure me even a novice can fit it up no dramas. Good luck mate.

Just supercharge the prick for $6000 and enjoy tearing away from everyone with ease. Check out Raptor Superchargers, they make very nice and affordable kits. Couple the kit with better injectors, Bosch 044 Fuel Pump, fuel reg and a custom tune, you'll be hauling a** with no lag (unlike a turbo)

No lag? so 1psi @ 1500+rpm building progressivley until rev limiter is no lag? My brothers Rotrex makes 1psi @ 1800rpm and 11psi @ 5700rpm. It develops boost in a flat line, 5.5psi is seen at roughly 3500rpm, by which time a turbo has seen full boost and is walking away.....

+1 superchargers build boost slower, i was talking to a mate about his supercharged xr8 and he was talking about going to auto and fitting a bigger stally for this reason, turbo's also produce more torque?

It pains me to read misinformation over and over. For the guys above recommending a centrifugal supercharger as a no lag option here is a graph to show you how they work because you dont seem to get it.

Raptors, vortechs, powerdynes are all centrifugal superchargers.

Also on the graph is a turbo plotted. This is how my car is on low boost.

Image

You will notice the same boost at under 2000rpm but heaps more at 2500-6000rpm with the turbo. Guess which one is faster?

With the right supercharger you can get no lag but a centrifugal isnt it. You need a kenne bell, M112, Magnuson or a whipple for that.

yeah i understand what you're saying mate. Good to see it on paper that helps. But essentially you have to products that are going to give you very similar results depending on how you rig it etc. If your just looking for that little more power and response without getting crazy. I seriously was considering a charger mate only thing that stopped me was the resale As i dont tend to keep my cars too long usually two or tired years max so from that angle for me its cheaper to trade up in another 6 months so come end of financial year next year i will Probably only be looking 12 or 13 g handover. But just Google the ba bfs that have had a charger added they are pretty tough. If you wanna charge it charge it mate if your planning to keep the car a while its Probably a worthwhile little project As for warranty it will void that however it is pretty common if something major happens for ford to weasel out of obligation by blaming poor fuel quality so its really not an issue Haha. Very rare to have problems with a recently built ford. Cheers.
Obie
