How ya going?
I took my car out for a drive today (EBII XR6) and noticed the idle is f**k, for example when I start the car I must have my foot gently laid on the accelerator to help it sit at about a grand then I take my foot off after about a minute or two and it drops to about 300 which I dont mind. What concerns me is when I'm driving and have to slow down suddenly (putting my clutch in or placing it in nuetral) it completely dies, the revs slowly drop until they are at zero. So here's the question, is there a way to adjust the idle revs and how am I to do this? (edit) Or if someone could link me to an appropriate page that would be great. I'm in desperate need of information as I have quite a long drive ahead of me and don't want my car driving like a b**ch. Any help will be appreciates thanks! |

On the right side of your engine attached to the top of the Throttle body is a unit called an ISC which controls your idle. undo the 2 bolts and unplug the wiring harness and take it off and give it a good clean and whilst your at it clean the throttle body itself. I clean my ISC with petrol (not sure if that is the best but it works for me). That usually solves the problem. If worst comes to worst there is along skinny screw that adjusts the idle revs. Screwing that in a little bit will also pick up the revs for you. Ive done this on my car and it idles at 300 its auto and idles very smoothly and has 380,000 kays.

There is no way your car idles at 300rpm.

Yes it does but the way i mean it, is when it is in gear. Not in Neutral.

I always thought the thick line was 300? My mistake, my car drops to 500 after letting my foot off the accelerator**

Well Troyman i admit i may be wrong then. My apologies go to Krissis Dog.
Anyway as you can see the idle is pretty smooth where it is and never stalls. With the aircon on it idles a bit higher obviously.

thats very weird i have the exact same problem 92 eb 2nd series Revs about 800 in park/neutal and in gear it sits on 300 but when i turn the air con on instead of going up in Revs it drops and usealy stalls in a flipping auto!! >.>
300-500 elephant lion = same

thats all good and well but still doesent explain why our cars are stalling or low reving or the rev meter bouncing low to high then stalling when air con is on well for mine it does anyway

give the idle base screw a tweak, and clean the ISC out.

Could be your torque converter? not slipping when you drop it into gear maybe? Whats your gearbox box oil level like? hows it drive?

i made an orriface plate for my isc with about 5mm holes from a coke can to reduce the immediate effectiveness of the solenoid to get my car to idle with my cam. works ok. but i'm guessing thats not your caper, cleaning the isc has never worked for me since i bought my cam but i'm guessing that coz it was working before, cleaning and/or replacing won't change the problem anyway, however if you haven't changed anything on the car than the chances of it being dirty and effecting idle is fair likely, and so are about 50 other things like snap mentioned.
also if all else fails the throttle body still has a base idle screw...
