Hi again folks,
I just got the ED motor into my EA, went in surprisingly easily. Unfortunately, I didn't disconnect the hoses on the pass side rear of the motor... my father was over visiting from QLD and he was disconnecting everything from that side while I worked on the other side and the engine mounts etc.... so when it came to taking my old motor out... we just sorta did the same thing.. problem is that now he has returned to QLD and I haven't a clue where some of these hoses go. 1. Coming out from behind the washer bottle are three hard 5mm plastic hosts, one green, one short black and one long black... dunno where they go other than probably vacuum feed for the interior. (but where to pickup from?) 2. Under intake manifold is two heater type hoses.. one of them has a vacuum solenoid on it.. (guessing that one is the heater). There is another long one, which I first thought was the other heater one... but then noticed a metal pipe from the cooling system sticking out between the rear intake manifold pipes... so which ones are the heater hoses and where does the 3rd one go? (really wish I'd taken before photos now, I assumed my Max Elleries manual would cover it, but it doesn't seem to.) Do we have any docs here for where to hook this stuff up? any help, most appreciated.. rgds Franki perth WA |

Franki,
I can take a few pix later today of the vacuum and heater hose setup for you, can't do anything until it's daylight. LOL A few of pix of your para 2 problem hoses would help as your description could even be vacuum or PCV hoses. Paul

Hi Paul,
I have sorted out the fuel line/return.. couldn't tell which was which, then noticed the filter inline on one of them.. so thats sorted. Figured the heater out too, one of the pipes is steel and goes round to the water pump, that one goes to the heater core pipe closest to the passenger door... the other is the one with vacuum tap in it. So fuel and heater are correct... Really all that I need to figure out, are the three small hard stiff plastic hoses coming from the other side of the firewall behind the window washer bottle. Oh, and to verify that the brake booster gets its vacuum from the biggest inlet on the vacuum tree at the firewall end of the intake manifold. Also the hose that is on the top/back of the tappet cover.. is that the one that goes right to the front of the intake manifold right near where the air filter attaches? I'm assuming it's to make sure any excess crankcase gases are fed back into the intake? Once I have those sorted, I'll be laughing. I'm dying to get this thing fired up.. see how it goes.. then do the cam, then the extractors/exhaust.. and so on... the 3.9 was pretty gutless down low.. I'm hoping the new motor remedies that.. though I suspect I'll probably need to change the diff ratio. many thanks rgds Frank |

no luck paul?
I think one of the hoses in question goes to the heater from the control... just not sure which one. I guess trial and error will have to be the go.... they are only vacuum hoses for in car controls. |

Sorry Frankie, long day away from home.
You've got it right so far. The green vac line joins a small black line with joiner in it an goes to the heater tap. The large line on the tree is to the vacuum booster. The black line from the firewall is to the tree [serves the heater via the cabin] The 3rd vac line on the tree is from the fuel reg. The large line from the rear of the rocker cover does go towards the front of the manifold. The medium sized black vac line runs fron the inner side of the manifold to the MAP sensor on the firewall I've just got home and haven't had time to edit these pics with text or arrows, so have a look at them and if you need more explanation either PM me or post here. Off for a feed and shower now, Cheers Paul

I don't think the hose that is left is "engine" related at all..
It's a tiny hard plastic vacume hose that leads back into the dash. Someone has dumped a fairlane down the street (looks like it's been joyridden) I might have a look at that one. |

OK.
That sounds like either 1. Vacuum - to the dash to operate the Air Controls, or 2. The Vacuum feed to switch off the water when Cool is selected (heater tap). |

The vac hose from the dash to the water tap is the green one, w/joiner into short black hose at the tap.
The long thin black line from the dash goes to the tree. The fuel reg. hose goes to the tree. Take out the washer bottle and make sure the cruise control and water lines are accounted for? Franki, any chance of a pic to show us exactly what hose we're talking about. Paul

OK, fair nuff...
I was paranoid, because my heater has never worked properly... When I had the engine out, I checked the heater core and gave it a flush.... no problems there... and the fan inside works fine... so assumed that I needed vacuum somewhere to open some flap/solenoid or something to allow air to flow though the heater core... will see what happens I guess... no point stressing about a problem if it isn't there anymore. WooooHoooo... I just picked up some Genie extractors and a 16 inch Thermo fan for a grand total of $220.... I'm stoked!!! |
