Car has gone in to the mechanic for a checkup due to my airbag light staying constantly on. It flashes for about 10 seconds after turning the car on, after that it stays on constant.
Any ideas what causes this and how much it might cost? Mechanic said it might be a faulty crash sensor, or a variety of other things? 1994 EF XR6 Auto sedan. Thanks fellas (and sheilas )

Mine has been doing it since I bought and no-one has fixed it yet and that was 16 months ago. They try and fix it but after a couple of starts the light comes back on again.

My mates 94 EF has the same problem.
Maybe its just air bag maintenence needed, even though Ford says it doesnt need regular maintence. I guess it will take someone with this problem to crash and see if the air bag releases. |

might be an idea to swap your airbag with somebody elses that you know is working.

Mu Au has been doing it lately, but it flashes 8 then 1 which is obviously the error code. Watch and see if there's a pattern as this can help diagnose the problem.

this happened in my mates VT, he was in passenger seat and threw up (several times) and shorted a cable out, sold the car a month later.
holden said it needed to be booked in to have comp reset, and could take a few hours, haha, the other auto elec said, yeh take it to holden, will take them 10 minutes. love how they say everything takes a few hours.. so as for your coment to buy a holden i think not cant remember on a prioce given, probably get ripped thru the nose either way

turned out to be 5 fault codes that were embedded in the computer. the most recent code and "hard fault" was low voltage caused by a previously dead battery
the BEM has a module that in the event of the airbag being faulty in some way, it blows the fuse for the circut automatically, preventing it from blowing un-neccessarily (or at all for that matter) mechanic reckons its a common problem with the early EF, usually change the fuse, clear the fault codes and she'll be right cost me $66 for that bit

This fault can caused by the airbag fuse being removed or blown and can be fixed by simply reseting the airbag system, see
http://www.fordmods.com/phpBB2/documents.php?doc=3 unfortunately the pictures are not working and I can't remember which pins need to be jumped to carry out the reset action. Maybe someone else here knows which pins they are.

My EF 1995 is also having the same problem. From the reference doc 3, my air bag light flash code is 12 (which indicates low battery). Not sure if this means the backup battery needs to be replaced or my main car battery is playing up. Any ideas any one? Does any one have the missing pics in the document that I can use to reset the light?

mate check your fuse (inside cabin at drivers side) as it prob blown. I had mine to about 5 different auto elecs, around 3 or 4 different mechanics and the previous owner said it was like that from new and ford would fix and then it came back. All it was, was a blown fuse
