Well, smoke_ and i ran at willowbank last night, my best run with the filter was 15.18, no filter is worth a .18sec gain, cause my last run was a 15.00 with no filter

How many times did you do run with the filter and without???? You would have to run 3 each, to get an average, then you can say, its better, its worse. eh????

OK, so I'm running the EL GT snorkel with a K&N panel on the intake side. All the piping etc. is still as standard, I;ve only changed those two parts. Is there anything else I can do there to make an improvement?
I'm guessing there;s been many a debate over whether panels or pods are better (which I'll search for in a bit) but the vibe im getting is that there is little or no difference, and it basically comes down to how much you wanna sound like a rice burner?

There is a restriction where the pipe meets the airbox, like a venturi. Remove this and the flow will increase.

As in, a little internal fitting that I can take out without having to replace or dodge up anything? Like, a restrictor plate? Don't spose I could hit you up for some additional infor on that one? Its the first I've heard of it.
Thanks mate!

They, Ford, fitted them to lower the induction noise. If its possible to remove it, so there is a 3" hole, then all good. Heres a pic of mine, I know its not an EF, EL, but you see its 3" all the way. I make them myself out of stainless steel. The adaptor, that is. Its also rubber mounted.

So, you dont think that little piece has an effect on tuning for power or fuel economy at all? I've seen bits in other threads about the opening going from 80mm to 50mm, but no one seems to bother to remove it. I guess most people go with the direct fitted pod filters and cut it out as they do it without thinking?
If its not gonna effect my torque range or fuel too much I might try it. I'll take a look and see wot can be done anyway. Doesnt make sense to have a 50mm outlet if the holes 80mm! Who cares about induction noise? it isnt that loud! Thanks again!!

The thing is If it can breathe in, its gotta breathe out. It will help it heaps.
You will notice the power increase, especially if the engine is in good tune & condition.

Yea, for sure. I think I just realised why no one ever mentions this...
Coz most people just replace the entire pipe with stainless or PVC. Is it just the one baffel at the air box or is there more stuff up the pipes as well? I'm definitely checkin this out tomorrow morning!

I am always amazed at the time, effort, and money that is spent on modifying the falcons intake pipe and filter

Why's that? Stock's good enough and modding makes no difference in your opinion?
