just installed a new unifilter into my EF2 XR6. On replacing this I noticed on the inside of the airbox cover there was a tube which ran almost the length of the cover. Is this necessary or can i hacksaw it off so the air can run directly into the engine?

Leave in, it draws the air from the centre rather then the end of the box.

I compared it with the utes filter{unifilter} which was spread out evenly. still see alot of sun light throu it, EL & AU sucks air from all 4 corner of the filter. I ended up hacking it off. ended up with a 80mm opening.

the EF airbox lid was flow-tested as the best out of the EF/EL/AU lids, due to the trumpet inside of the lid.
so remove if you wish, it won't make sweet FA of a difference!

again, pods have been proven to show next to no real difference over panel ones.
each to their own - if you want to cut it off, go for it - but either way its not going to really change much power-wise!

EF with 55mm tube opening or bell mouth. against 55mm ventury opening of au's side of box. but did they test a 80mm bell mouth adapter for comparision?

thanks for your replies guys.
seems like it it best to keep the trumpet in there as removing it is just a s**t of a job with no real enhancement to the running of the car. |
