gday guys, well here is my problem ever since ive had the car (3 years now) the air con has never worked (because of a siezed compressor pump) so i went to pick apart and got a recoed one out of a ef. not i connected it all up (kn owing it wouldnt work because of no gas) but to check that the clutch was working dad hooked it up to a battery to see if it would click in and out and yup it did, i connected it up in the car and pushed the a/c button (no click) the clutch wont ingage...... whast would be cutting power to it?? i couldnt find a aircon fuse dad said something about the themostate (somewhere near the glove box) but i wouldnt find it. thanks alot + summer is comming

Low pressure switch is disabling it.
Needs Gas for it to work. First thing in the morning when your turn on the ignition, I think you hear a click just before you crank, Maybe its a manual thing, My car does it¿

A/C compressors are made not to work when no gas present and no oil in compressor.... should only cost about 200 dollars to get it regassed and retro fited to work with th R13a gasses

Make sure you tell them the pump has been replaced.
Now when you installed it, did you remove the oil in the compressor? Good if you did cos they can put in the required amount, if you didn't they'll have to guess and add an ounce or so.

Also hold the clutch hub on the compressor and rotate it by hand a few turns, to prime it, and also to check to see if it's seized also.
I would also check on that price - I'd say a receiver/dryer replacement is on the cards also, so this will add to the cost - also may cost a bit more on labour because it's below the LH headlight.

well today it went in, took them about an hour, it was 132.00 but i also asked about putting dye in it so it will come up with a black light if there was a leak so total was 155 i was wrapped, but whilst it was there the fan speed resistors decided they didnt want to work anymore so i need new ones. no retro fitting was done. just filled it up did a check all sweet and its sooooo good now havnt turned it off all day

Lets hope he put in new O-Rings on his AC lines.

I dont use Refegerant in my AC System. Its charged with Hydrocarbon Gas. Instead of using the standard 1KG Charge it used 210 Grams of Hydrocarbon Gas and blows Ice Crystals out of the vents. I dont know if the gas is avaliable over east but.

So this stuff is akin or the same as the hydrocarbon propellant used in spray cans ??
Is it competitive in price to R134a ?? Sounds like it's pretty efficient - obviously has a boiling point at reasonably low temps.

This is the stuff I use.
HR12 is a blend of R600a and R290, two naturally occurring hydrocarbon refrigerant gases and is perfect for use in automotive air-conditioning systems and in refrigeration applications. HyChill HR12 is derived from uniquely pure natural gas sources, and manufactured to the strictest quality controls. HR12 is efficient and safe to use, requiring no modification to air conditioning systems and minimal modification to most refrigeration systems. HyChill HR12 ensures exceptional energy efficiency, dispersing heat much more effectively than fluorocarbon equivalents. Substantial cost savings for long term operation are achievable by replacing fluorocarbon refrigerants with HR12. |
