removed EF air con compressor and placed to one side in the engine bay to do engine work. next day reinstalled it and now air con not working...appears to be no gas in system...looks as though moving the compressor has disturbed the old flexible high pressure hose and it leaked. that hose is a single unit from TX valve all the way down to the dryer. Anyone know where to get this hose (online) non-genuine?

So can you see visible leaks ?? - gas escaping usually leaves traces of refridgerant oil.

That hose varies between Early EF's and late EF/EL's. The difference is the pipe connection at the front.

If you take it to a Air Con specialist they can put a dye in it to find the leak. You wouldn't want to be replacing the hose without knowing for sure. Not cheap I'd bet.

But was the hose damaged enough to cause the leak ??

exact same problem with my a/c when i took it off the engine and placed it to the side. I was going to get the hose repaired but once it was back in its normal position i decided to gas it up cause i can do it for free/on the sly at work and it didnt leak back out.... so maybe you could have gotten away with it, i dont know. Maybe just my luck...

yeah, seems odd the evaporator would s**t itself like this, but then again, the car is old, nothing should surprise me anymore...technician reckons that it was probably ready to fail for a long time, once the gas pressure was released it let go...dunno...found a new evap for $125 delivered......not concerned about removing dash, ...guess I can fix that recirc/fresh flap at the same time...

I suppose the hose movement could put stress on the evaporator pipes - I've noticed same on my XR6 wagon during my LPG conversion - moved that hose out of the way, now A/C has no gas.
Denis, do you have a link for the evaporator ???

Evaporator arrived. just wondering, do I need to drain the coolant to replace the evaporator or will the heater core remain inside?
