hi guys,
i was considering installing a pod filter or panel filter in my EL XR6,
would it make a lot of difference performance wise?
which is better pod or panel?

stick with the panel as you wont have to change anything, but invest in something decent

oh yer but what about from a power perspective?
also do u get an induction noise from a panel filter?

spend the money on a k&n panel filter and a bigger snorkel unsure which one will fit..

You wont get much of a performance increase at all to be completely honest. Maybe a bit of extra response depending on how its set up but thats about it really IMO. If you've got the money to spend on it though, go for it as you wont need to change it ever, just clean it out when it gets dirty etc..

I had a 3" pod in the airbox on my EF not long ago, recently removed it and went back to the standard paper panel filter due to a change in my intake setup. In all honesty i couldnt tell any difference between the 2 performance wise, everything felt exactly the same except i no longer had the hollow sucking sound of the pod.

Unless your motor is seriously worked and is sucking in a huge amount of air, id stick with the standard paper filter which would do just fine. Save your money and work on getting more air into the airbox i.e cold air pickup underneath the airbox with a duct rigged up from the a vent in the front bumper. Being an EL you could also enlarge the outlet on the airbox to 3" and fit a 3" stainless pipe inplace of the small tapered standard EL plastic pipe from the airbox to the rubber flex bend

leave the paper filter in the box and put EF lid on it, then fit a bit of 3inch pipe from the air box to the flex bend.

I've become of the opinion that K&N filters are the single biggest waste of money.

by the time you buy a filter and a cleaning kit you could have bought 15 paper filters and have the same power. so unless you honestly think you're keeping the car for at least 16 years, it a waste.

even keeping the car that long will only save you about $10

No they dont.

A BA XR6T snorkel will fit, theyre a fair bit larger than stock. $40ish from Ford.

just install a BA/BF airbox intake

I remember putting a K &N panel filter in my EF years ago - felt a bit more responsive on throttle pressure - but not much more.

I have just put a BF Typhoon airbox on my BAMk2 - it has the 2nd CAI under the headlight
I have a FRAM Airhog filter which probably does nothing

I have noticed a nice induction growl though with the 2nd CAI when accelerating hard. I like it
